Re: Friday the 13th

I knew it was Friday the 13th, two laptops came in for repair, and a desktop. Desktop finished in under an hour, One Laptop about 2 hours, laptop No# 2 7 hours straight fighting it. 125 virii and trojans adware and spyware out the butt, got it all removed, ran XP repair, browser decided to take a du...

That might explain why so much oil is found drilling in the oceans.

Re: Intel Monopoly Rocked By Official FTC Investigation

Intel still has the better processor, I bought a couple of E2180s from their 800mhz FSB line for testing cpu coolers and stuff and they out do my old x2 6400 in over clocking and performance. I've clocked them up to 3.2 easily and their still under the max vcore their rated for. I don't see an anti ...

Re: Oil prices blow past $138 a barrel

I'm paying $3.28 using my loyalty card with Flying J truck stops. Without the loyalty card it'd be $3.58. It's pumped, refined and shipped out of Oklahoma so transportation costs are lower. We go up there and eat about once a month, and buy a coke now and again and we get 30cents off a gallon up to ...

Re: Food for thought for gas

It might make some insignificant difference to fuel in the morning, contraction should affect the equipment dispensing the gas as well as the gas, then liquids just don't condense well. It makes sense not to fill when a tanker is dropping but not for the reason stated. The dirt/contaminants won't ev...

Re: Ack what did I do?

I've had customers try the hot swap routine it usually doesn't turn out well even on hot swap capable boards. One fried a nice external enclosure (Tagan) that was e-sata/usb/docking but he was running it from a normal sata port and an e-sata bracket. Another blew a sata port set, probably the sata c...

Pretty sweet looking equipment.

The Dice cooling is just bordering insane for a well established company. Shows they still have enthusiasm for Puters.

Re: GM to close 4 truck plants due to high fuel cost.

I don't know, a gas hog goes down enough in price I might get one for short trips. I only average about 40 miles a week outside of service calls. Service calls well the customer pays for the gas/snacks/food/porno I happen to pick up. Longer trips I've been getting 42 miles to the gal for years it's ...

Generally budget but it looks like they might be stepping up a little.

I've used a lot of Biostar boards in sales units and never had a problem with them but the ones I've had were kaka for OC.

Re: laptop constant reboot

Will it go into Safe mode? If it does then it's probably an XP problem. If you get into safe mode try the restore from a previous point. Failing that: Wait on the customers disk, or check for drivers on the HP/Compaq website and do a manual install of XP and load the web drivers. It won't have the p...

I'm glad I'm not the only one that manages to hose his OS occasionally. I finally got an E-Sata external and clone it on a regular basis. Of course since I've gotten the E-Sata setup I haven't hosed once. Figures.

Re: I run on a UPS. Do you?

For years I've used APC UPS on all my expensive equipment. Surge bars are okay for surges but they don't cover brown outs and they won't shut the computer down normally if the power goes out. Plus they come with protection insurance. In all the time I've used them nothing has ever gotten hit or dama...

Re: Gaming Mouse Pads

I use the Razer Destructor gaming pad. It tracks better than the POS cloth ones, it's bigger. Takes a little getting used to with the teflon feet on my mouse. The mouse almost floats across the surface of the Destructor. Company blurb about it says 35% better laser and 25% better optical tracking. I...

Re: What the ?!?!

Only thing I've seen with SP3 is that previous to installing SP3 you need to have all the drivers installed. Eventually we ran into several cases of drivers not wanting to install under SP3. When SP3 installs it coordinates a bunch of hot fixes under it's banner and they no longer appear in the add ...
