Double Cheese Burger (Q6600) Mobo (The DarkSide)

Here's the deal. Budget $400 ish.

It looks like I'm going to have the cash together for a Q6600 really soon, that part I can handle hopefully. (No I'm not getting rid of the AMD )

Is there a way to tell if it's a Go Q6600 (gotta excuse me if my Intel terminology is oh say 6 years behind) by Go I mean the latest revision of the double cheese burger.

Then what I'll be working with from previous builds.

Tagan 700w BZ700 (Larger is supposed to be on the way but I'm bound by a gag agreement with the sample supplier, say 1000w theoretically same manufacturer as ThermalTake Tough Power we'll see)

Q6600 to go on the mobo
4 gig OCZ reaper so it needs to be 2.0v for vdimm (I have 2 gig of mushkin 1.8v left but really like to stay with the Reaper)
2 of 4 Sata 3.0 hard drives (gotta leave a couple in the AMD)
DVD RW Sony sata
Half a dozen cases (probably move into the ThermalTake Armor)
XFX 8800 GT Alpha Dog
Swiftech triple radiator water cooling (Got enough parts for a second triple rad setup and a ThermalRight 120 Ultra)

So with that budget I'm looking at the P35 chipset, X38 is a wish, X48 undoable. Pretty much P35 to get out of the gate with Intel. I need a P35 that'll run the Q6600, with up to 2.1 vdimm in the $150 price range. I can live with 2.0 vdimm.

Here's what I found on the EGG, the X38 would only be if things went like a charm, Will any of these feed the power hungry OCZ Reaper, OC decent. I'm open to other suggestions.

just about all of them are g0 stepping. as for mobo, i would either go witht the lanparty or the ddr3 gigabyte one. or if you want i could sell you my 680i mobo for like 200 or less.

I vote for any of the Gigabyte P35/X38 boards. I really love my P35 DS3R.

Clubit.com is one of the only places that will guarantee a GO stepping quad. But as was said before, most of them now are Go, its just nice to be sure.

The Q6600 plays nice with the Gigabyte P35 DS3L ($89), and works well with the OCZ Reaper ram. I'm running mine at (4-4-4-12) 1.97v, 800Mhz.

In the P5K-E I found an attractive option, Asus is my favorite board. DFI I hear a lot good about but never tried one, The X38 is PCi-E 2.0, and the GIGABYTE GA-EP35C-DS3R has ddr2/ddr3 and 45nm support.

Why is it that Mother Boards are like women, you wantem all until ya gotta live with them?

I checked and nearly all the boards you listed at Newegg are found through price grabber with the exception of the DFI boards, since DFI is losing resellers and having lower sales lately.

I like it actually, a WiFi card would've cost me atleast 20$ (for a crappy one). It's not the best wireless ever made, but I found it to be quite stable. So if you're going to use it, it's a pretty good deal!

Thanks Apop I didn't know about that option, I'll start using it.

If I go P5K-E instead of the X38 setup that non wifi board might be a good option, I was figuring that if I resold it down the line it might be a selling point.

The Asus P5K-E and the Q6600 are on the way. I already have better CPU cooling than the stock cooler so I got the OEM cpu. Came in nicely under $400.

Almost feels like a little AMD piece of the soul slipping away after so many years. I'll probably be in whining about over clocking the quad next week if the mere delivery of Intel equipment doesn't cause me to burst into flames upon touching it.

Well as fate has it if I'd have waited an hour I coulda ordered any any motherboard I wanted for the q6600. Less than an hour after posting I sold two computers and ended up with a wad of cash. Nice wad.

Maybe Intels gonna be good luck for me.
