Need some input

Post by bubba »

Ok, had a small issue with my 5700 ultra, it died.

this is a good thing and bad, I no longer need to try and build my new box around the card.

so for my new machine I have picked out this:

the case ASPIRE X-Dreamer http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811144010
the mobo ASUS P5GDC Deluxe http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813131519
the ram Kingston ValueRAM 512MB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820141424

what I'm have the prob with is the is the rather large range of vid cards that are out right now. what I would like to do, being I have a limit to my buget, is make the jump to the PCI-E world and not break the bank.

For the time being I would like to stay in the 100-150 range. going for "bang for buck".

I take all the help I can get on this, critique the rest if you want also.

Well, the best bang for your buck card (in PCI-Express) would probably have to be the nVidia 6600GT. But this card averages about $175 but you can often find a good deal on one for less than $170... http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant ... ode=190439

If that is out of your budget, your next best bet would be a 128mb X700pro by ATI. These can be had for usualy about $130-$140, the lowest prices usually just under $130... http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant ... ode=190404

As for the rest of your components, you could actually get cases with better airflow than that one you linked to that will be cooler and quieter, so keep your search going for cases (but that is still totally up to you).

The 6600GT is a great value in the sub $200 range, but if you have to pinch pennies take a look at my 6200TC review, i found it was very playable in most modern games.

think I may end up with a x6/700 card... the 6600gt it a tad out of range at the moment.

thanks for the input.
