I'm not aware of any cell phone that this can be done on but many phones have broadband capabilites so it wouldn't be too far fetched.bandieramonte wrote:Hello, I got a question about this iPhone 3G: does this allow to install Skype and call to a computer with Skype initiating a video conference call , meaning the user at the computer may be seen throughout the iPhone's screen. The computer user must also be able to see the iPhone user, and of course, both must be able to hear each other.
If this is not possible with this phone, can anyone point me out to one mobile device that does so?

Really? There must be some cell phone that does this, I've been investigating this area and I still can't find the cell phone.FZ1 wrote: I'm not aware of any cell phone that this can be done on but many phones have broadband capabilities so it wouldn't be too far fetched.
Till now I've found the Sony Vaio VGN-UX380 micro laptop which I think is the smallest laptop in the world but still is not a cell phone. With this little laptop I can do the Skype stuff without problems, but it costs a lot (more than USD1,000 everywhere I've seen) and it's not as small as a cell phone of course. But this is the closest I've found till now.
In this era, there must be the cell phone that easily does this, but which model I still don't know...

With Skype? Probably not. That would mean loss of revenue for your service provider (assuming you already have an unlimited data plan, of course).

I'd say your best (possibly only) bet would be the OpenMoko but I doubt it's currently able to do that. It is opensource though so you should be able to hack Skype into it and use that but unless you're ready to get down to the nitty gritty of doing it yourself I doubt you'll see it for awhile.

Re: iPhone 3G
Well, actually it does not have to be necessarily Skype. I mentioned this software because I know it can finely handle video conference calls between Skype users, and it's completely free. It could be any other software that does the same.
So, to generalize, I'm searching for any cell phone that can correctly (and without substantial lags) handle video conference calls with any software that allows it without any costs (provided that both users in the video conference call use the same software, just as Skype does). So one can video call free from charge from a laptop to the cell phone and from the cell phone to a laptop (or between two of these cell phones). Of course, I'm aware that both users would pay for Internet connection.
Any ideas? Or still should I try to hack Skype to a OpenMoko ?

And there's your reasoning as to why, in most likelihood, that'll never be supported officially. Of course, there's a Skype hack for the iPhone. Not sure if it's calls only or if it allows video conferencing.bandieramonte wrote:"...it's completely free."
