Need Help on Inernet Explorer question please

Post by Keith »

My computer recently had an error message and wanted me to boot from my Windows XP disk. I did. Then I updated from Microsoft. Since then I have lost a funtion that I used to find really handy. The only way I can describe it is like this:

I used to be able to go to my favorites list and right mouse click. Then the option would come up that would let me open a new web site in another browser. (or "open in new tab") I could then have multiple web sites open at the same time. That option has dissappeared and I can't figure out why and how to get it back?

Any suggestions?

Many thanks

i'm not positive which version you have, but i'm using IE7 and 8Beta and for it:

internet options-> bottom of the "general" tab-> tabs- settings-> make sure "enable tabbed browsing" is checked, and i also check "quick tabs"

press ctrl T to open a new tab, or click on the mini-tab

If you can't find the option that skierkid has suggested, go to help and about and look at what version of internet explorer you are running.

Help > About.

Dan: It says I'm running 6.0.
When I rebooted from my disk it must have installed an outdated version. Where do I go to get 7?

skierkid: On this version there are no choices on the general tab.

But I think you guys have steered me to the problem. Now I just have to figure out where to go to fix it.

I don't come here often, but when I do this has always been a great forum with lots of great people willing to help!!

It's as I thought that it downgraded you from 7 to 6 (The giveaway is that 6 doesn't support tabs).

You can get back IE7 (as well as other system updates) from the windows update site:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

Or if you don't want to update the rest of windows (for whatever reason) a direct(ish) link can be found here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downlo ... itnow.mspx
