Woohoo, faster internets!

Post by DMB2000uk »

So it's nothing special by lots of peoples standards (except the people stuck on dial up, may God save their souls), but I've upgraded my internets from a 2mbit down, 256kbit up to a 8mbit down, 768kbit up.

It's only been on a day so hasn't had time to sink to the fastest possible, but according to my router I'm sitting pretty at 6720 kbps Down and 768 kbps Up.

Uploads in the UK are generally pathetic, so i've done well to triple it (it's going to really help when my sister decides she wants to send webcam to about 3 of her friends at the same time, it used to slow everyone else to a crawl when that happened).

Is that the 5 fingered staff discount? One of the advantages of actually being able to tweak phone lines yourself :P

Our university internet sucks, because we have 45Mbit serving 2000 students and their attendant faculty/staff. Of course, the sorority girls would fire up LimeWire and some of the frat boys hit up porn sites, then there were all the YouTube/Veoh/Hulu users and the connection was running at 85%+ utilization at all times. We're supposed to get a bandwidth doubling tomorrow...

I will be testing it.

Side Note: The internet here at school got so slow that my 4Mbit/500kb home connection was better (it's actually 6Mbit/768kb but that's all the ISP can manage with us this far from the teleco running DSL).

3.0mb/512 advertised. usually around 2.2/384. I know CenturyTel has 10mb in some areas, but 3.0 is max for me. :(

Well I think it's finished syncing, and I've lost a meg of speed.

I'm currently sat at 5888down on my router, still 768 up though.

Speedtest.net gives me 4900~ down and 650~ up.

My whole broadband life i have been with AT&T and thier internet, 1.5D and 384U. That is until recently. Our apt complex I guess finally broke from the ATT ball and chain and signed with charter cable. I signed up with the fasted they had and I get every bit of it. 16/2 Both speeds up and down cap. I do a lot of uploading, and it sure enough gets the full 2Meg. The cherry on top is we get free cable. :)
