Right now i'm trying to hook up one phone, one computer and have wireless enabled...
You can't be serious with all these advanced settings... This is 2008... How the heck can it be that tough and why would the directions say none of this?

Re: Home Network Issue
If I understand correctly....
Everything was working just fine one day.
The next day it didn't work correctly anymore.
You didn't do anything to make it "not work".
I've had the same thing happen twice in the last three months.
Everything is fine when I go to bed.
When I get up in the morning, there is no internet connectivity through the router.
However, if I connect a PC directly to the Cable modem it works fine.
But, no combination of power cycling or "reset to factory default" would allow my router work with the modem.
I don't know what caused the problem I had, but it sounds very similar to yours. It drove me nuts for about 5 hours.
I only got my "solution" when I was updating the DD-WRT firmware on my router.
As part of the update they suggest you clear the nvram before, and after, an update. And bingo, as soon as I did that everything worked fine again.
When the same problem happened about two weeks later, I was able to resolve it immediately by:
1. Powering off the cable modem.
2. Clearing the nvram of the router (via hard reset)
3. Powering off the router.
4. Powering on the cable modem. Waiting for it to fully sync with ISP.
5. Powering on the router.
I don't know if the "factory reset" option in your router actually clears the nvram, or if it just resets values to default settings.
My problem persisted through a "factory reset" via the device GUI. However, it was resolved by a 30/30/30 hard reset.
So, maybe try that?
30/30/30 How to from http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Ha ... r_30/30/30
With the unit powered on, press and hold the reset button on back of unit for 30 seconds.
Without releasing the reset button, unplug the unit and hold reset for another 30 seconds.
Plug the unit back in STILL holding the reset button a final 30 seconds.

You move north.
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

Re: Home Network Issue
Can you find any options on the wireless router to use it as a gateway? Or, can you maybe get inside the configuration screen for your cable modem and disable the DHCP server on it?Apoptosis wrote:Right now i'm trying to hook up one phone, one computer and have wireless enabled...

If you're unable to do either of the above, I'd suggest a hard-reset on the wireless router. That usually resets it to usable condition (internet connection - automatic/DHCP, DHCP server on, router operating mode - gateway, wireless security - non-existent

1. power down all devices
2. disconnect cable modem from wireless router
3. turn on cable modem
4. turn on wireless router
5. turn on computers
6. connect cable modem to wireless router
I intentionally left connecting the cable modem to the router last. That way, your wireless router would have already assigned local addresses to your computers and hopefully, the cable modem would be tricked into thinking only one device is connected to it.

Nope... Still the same issues... This is the reason I haven't been folding for the past two weeks as I have no network.turnsoutitwas wrote:Hi Apoptosis, did you ever get this one sorted?

Re: Home Network Issue
Have you considered checking with Charter and make sure they are not blocking multiple IP's?
I read last week that Charter is considering moves like Comcast to curb their major usage customers!
I dunno, just a thought, since nothing else is working and you can connect with one computer!

Re: Home Network Issue
If you use a router, you only use 1 IP address. DHCP routes everything through the single IP and assigns internal IP's for traffic purposes... or so I've always understood.camaroguy1998 wrote:Have you considered checking with Charter and make sure they are not blocking multiple IP's?

Re: Home Network Issue
Yes you're right, But there is no reason for Apop's problems. He's replaced the router and switch and had the same problem. He can connect a single unit without a problem, multiple computers dont work!?!DaIceMan wrote:If you use a router, you only use 1 IP address. Running out of possibilities.
IMHO, I'd buy a new router of a different brand(maybe the new Linksys "N" model) and recreate his network and see what happens!
