PCIe 2.0

Post by hercules71185 »

I've notice a trend, the newer the technology the faster things have to change. As for my ignorance a week ago with the core i7 sockets. Now PCIe has been out since 2004, and 2.0 in 07. How much longer do you think this PCIe platform has left in it? Are there any rumors of a new expansion slot? For example I know the cards are huge and take up room now, but let's just say they could make a 3 core setup with a gtx 280. How close to the max bandwidth would this come?

I'm sure it'll be around for a good while yet.

They managed to go from v1.1 to v2 with keeping backwards compatibility, so maybe they'll be able to get another boost from it yet.

There are plans for PCIe 3, which will double the bandwidth once again.

Glad to hear that it has some time left in it.
