I don't know where they get away with labelling that as a 800W unit, as it's more like a 600W unit, and looking at the specs you've got probably a maximum of 350W of usable 12v power. Which is the most important rail for modern PCs (most of the load is on there).

Are all the 12v devices balanced across both 12v rails as best they can be (i.e. split the load across both rails)? If they are balanced, you should be able to get away with using that PSU. Your cut outs could be due to too many high power 12v devices being on just one rail and so the PSU is having to shut down to protect itself.

Is it just me or is there and echo in here?

In all seriousness though..

Notice that at times when your system is shutting off, the GPU might be getting hot, but it's also when the rest of the system is doing a lot of work and drawing a lot of power.

Try grabbing ORTHOS stress tester, and also ATITool. Run both at the same time (run the 3d view button), while keeping ATITool's fluffy cube window the window in focus. Leave them on for a bit and see if your PC reboots/shuts off.

thats because in order for it to get that hot, it has to pull tons of power which is making that subpar psu s*** bricks and turn your computer off

Which should be enough to show you that it's not a temp related problem.
