Odd error I've never seen

Post by hercules71185 »

Ok I have an error on a computer I'm working on and it is.
0x00000018, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xf83c425f

I figured typical ram and or hard drive error. So I did a swap. Changed the ram. And used another hard drive so if there was a virus like some sites claim. It could no longer be on the computer. This didn't work. Any ideas?

PS it does this right after the splash scree. So I can't even see the desktop to do any software fixes. It does it in safe mode too.

It has xp home on it. The other hard drive I tested with it has a dual boot xp and vista. I also tried it with a hard drive with just xp home that was another pc from the house. I just took apart the whole thing and looked for any signs of any damage. The only damage I saw was enough dust to fill my vacuum lol. I gave it a fresh cleaning and resat everything except the heatsink because I'm waiting for it to dry off and reapply some compound.

O yea I forgot to mention when vista loads it gets the BSOD instantly and restarts without enough time to catch the message

I've replaced the ram and hard drive temporarily and nothing. It has a video card and I don't know how to test that or the cpu without replacing it .

You can't use OS installs on a hard drive from another machine, as when installed the OS boot is customised with motherboard drivers (etc) so when you run the other one it tries to use the wrong drivers and has a fit (BSOD).

Are all the voltages set right in the BIOS?

What Dan said. If I were you I would just do a complete reinstall. Most of the time it is faster just to do a reinstall than try to figure out what went wrong. After the fact you will be glad that you did a complete reinstall. Save some time and headache. 8)

O ok. I was trying to be nice since no one likes reinstalling their programs. Another thing is if I got the BSOD in the install. I'd be even more screwed lol. Thanks though I'll reinstall it and if it works I'll let you know.

I need more help again. Ok. Nothing I try to reinstall windows and when it says it's preparing to restart. It never does it freezes. I can't reinstall windows. Hard drive exchange didn't work, and neither did ram swapping. Any ideas?

Will it reformat the harddrive? Make sure you do the full install. If you cannot reformat the harddrive even with a harddrive swap then one must wonder if the drivers are incorrect. I think it best to treat this like a new build and load drivers again and first. Check all connections again, maybe something is loose. Good luck! Try to narrow down what part may have gone bad and replace.

Is it a SATA drive? Is the SATA mode in the BIOS set to the equivalent of a compatibility mode?

Are you saying that the drive you have wont re install windows xp onto it? The hard drive could be dying if you can test it with another one..

Everything is ok in the bios. I checked every possible setting. I tried reinstalling windows on the sata drive in the computer and when the computer says starting windows. It glitches and never restarts. After I manually restart it. It goes back to the original problem of BSOD on start up during the splash screen.
I also changed the ram to make sure it couldn't be that. I cleaned all the dust from the computer and got all the connections clean so there is no way it could be that now either.... AHHHH WTH!?

I say hard drive issue. Is that what you think as well? Swap out hard drive and try another. Good luck! 8) Edit: have you taken out the battery and checked to see if your battery is going?

Is anything in your machine overclocked? If so it may be an unstable overclock. Or it could be the motherboard not giving the cpu enough power. Try underclocking the CPU and see if that works.

If your trying to install vista with 4gb of ram some boards wont let you do that. On my 780i I have to drop back to 1 stick of ram, run the updates and then I am golden for the 4 gb of ram. If I didn't I would get the bsod at the splash like you are describing. Hopefully that helps
