glasses for LCD's
glasses for LCD's
I dont know how many people here spend all day (and then some) in front a LCD, but i spend alot of time in front of one myself and have noticed some eye strain and other problems from it. I recently came across a reference to Gunnar Optiks (http://gunnaroptiks.com/?gclid=CNDzoOHA ... agodFhBN2Q ) and have seen some sites with reviews on them. Has anyone here tried them or know anyone that has? Can LR get a pair to do a review? i'd be interested

Re: glasses for LCD's
I've worn glasses since I was 5, when I started setting in front of a computer eyes were KILLING me after a long day. When went to the eye doc they put an anti-glare coating on my glasses that reduced glare a lot for the old CRT. Now I have work supplied safety glasses that suck a** and does not have the coatings. I haven't noticed it much on LCDs as I did with CRTs.
Get you a pair of polarized shooting/driving glasses and see what that does for you. driving glasses may be hard to find with clear lenses, but should be able to get clear polarized shooting glasses. Might try and use them at night when driving too, cuts WAY down on glare.

Bubba, if you have insurance, you may want to save up your money for a pair of Nike glasses. i have a pair with the anti glare, there great for driving and using the computer on. plus, they have poly carbonate lenes so you can use them as safety glasses (i use them on a daily basis like that, theve already saved my one eye from a nasty little peice of scrap that found its wayinto the table saw)

nope, no eye insurance. Thats why they pay for me to have them. It cheaper they said then having an eye plan because there is only 6 people in the building that a required to have safety glasses for the shop. Since I don't go out there near as much as when I was in engineering I'm saving up for another nice pair of glasses. going to be in the ~$500 range after eye test, lenses + coatings, and titanium frame.... god do I miss my Ti frames, they are SO light its not even funny. Going to get a another pair of safety glasses on the company too so I can ware those in the shop and no screw up my nice glasses.

*cough* I bought some *cough*

If I'm going to know if these work it's going to take a long haul test, and so far I've only had them a week or two.
For gaming, the yellow tint seems to up the contrast, but I've been playing a lot over late nights (while already being over tired), so I'm can't really say if it's kept my eyes in better shape or whatever.
The one thing that does concern me about these is the fact that they are magnified (1.25x factor) which I'm worried is going to make my eyes used to this focus and become lazy, and make me need glasses down the line. So I'm currently only really using them when I can tell that my eyes are tired (I figure the occasional shifting in focus points is probably better than the prolonged fix either way).
Oh, and bubba: Polarised lenses wont work on LCD's due to the fact they they are polarised themselves. Tilt your head too far one way and the screen goes black (I have some polarised sunglasses and I tried to use them one time
).

PS. I did the fancy pics with the intention of writing a review for LR about them, but with not keeping myself in great shape in regards to eyestrain and decent amounts of sleep, to start off with I've not really got a fair place to start with the comparisons to normal PC use.

Re: glasses for LCD's
Oh, Ive had issues already going from CRTs with eye strain and blurred vision. OK playing games allnight and AIM tends to add to the problem. Going to the LCD as a Christmas gift I got the eye strain is by far greatly reduced. The refresh rate on the LCD is excellent.
Going back to a CRT still hurts the eyes.

Well that is good to know about the polarized lenses. I may get my glasses polarized and leave my work glasses for that... things to think about.

Re: glasses for LCD's
i dont know...... I could see $99 being worth it for maybe a CRT, but LCD's arent really all that bad on the eyes. And as what someone else said earlier, what about making the eye more lazy?
