Overclocking Question?

i plan to overclock my e8500 cpu stock 3163.5mhz. now the way i plan to do it is the safe way by increasing the FSB in small intervals but i also understand that i would need to increase my voltage in intervals. so just to ask before i do any of this, what would be a safe small increase on my FSB each time. i dont want to do what some have an increase FSB by 20-30mhz then burn there CPU also what would be the best small increase each time on my voltage.

Once the CPU is no longer stable that's when it needs more voltage. Don't forget to change your RAM settings unless you have some hardcore stuff. Basically clock it down to 533MHz and start to overclock.

increasing your fsb to much cant damage your cpu, the worst that happens is it wont boot

i just dont want to overclock it and then cant fix it due to doing to much so just wandering what the best small intervals that i should increase the fsb and vcore by. and thanks to stopthekilling77 for your guide it helped alot.

Your E8500 should be good for atleast 3.6-3.7ghz on stock voltage, so I'd say 380-400FSB is a good place to start.

almost forgot if my FSB is 400mhz giving me CPU 3.8ghz what should my dram frequency be as it is 444mhz and i have pc2-6400 ddr2-800mhz memory at the mo.

*edit* my overclock at 3.8ghz and FSB 400mhz failed boot up, until boot was successful FSB had to be lowered to 380mhz now CPU 3.61ghz still not bad and temp 48c on both cores and CPU temp reads 50c all under load and by the way my dram frequency is now 304mhz but as i stated above my ram is pc2-6400 ddr2-800mhz was what should be the correct dram frequency. also FSB:DRAM 5:4

just run the ram 1:1 until you get to the fsb your comfortable with, then adjust it. also, what kind of motherboard do you have?

just to ask how do i change my dram frequency as at the moment it is at 292mhz and as i have said i have 800mhz ram plus my FSB:Dram is 5:4 what shouls it be at.

i dont specifically know how to do it on that board, ussually on nvidia boards it can be set seperate from the FSB

i know that you can set the dram frequency on this board and i know how. it is currently running on auto but can be set to manual if needed. the setting are as follows. 333mhz (ddr2 667) 400mhz (ddr2 800). but can anyone tell me what is the right setting. i'm guessing it is the ddr2 800 as that is my memory spec but 400mhz seems wrong as it is an 800mhz set.

also i dont want to overclock my memory unless i have to, in which case, i will overclock slighty cause i dont want to burn up my pc and slow it down cause i not got the money for

a new one lol.

I don't even know what that means. The reason I said ot lower your RAM divider was to take the RAM out of the equation. I find it's easier to find your max clock that way. Then you can adjust your RAM after you find where the CPU Is stable.

thx for trying to help m8 but is there anyone that can tell me what my dram frequency should be at. 800mhz ram running at 292mhz according to cpu-z dram frequency. i just want to get the most out of my pc without going to far and damaging it.
