hehe..well, the pc sure didn't laugh so lol..glad to know what it means now so i can actually use it right..I once called my manager a bugger before I knew what it meant..luckily she understood my limited vocabulary skills and let me keep my job back then:) ..
Major_A wrote:Unplug all the power from the PSU to the motherboard. Pull the plug out of the back of the PSU and hold down the power button on the case for 5 seconds. Plug everything back in and see if it will turn on. I know this sounds dumb but sometimes it works, especially if there is a hard shutdown, i.e. the power goes out.
I unplugged everything and held the power button down.held it down for more like 10-15 seconds..but once plugged in, still nothing [email protected] least im going to visit a friend for his pc and he lives near the Fry's so I'll be stopping by there later to pick up a tester

At this time I'd say it's safe to say that something is dead. Now it's time to isolate the problem, getting that PSU tester is a good start.

Alrighty..got the tested the Power supply and presto, the PSU came on just fine and within normal range..i did forget that i didn't put the jumper back on correctly when i cleared the cmos earlier.but it still didn't do jack.there was power, but after the first bios set up it never came around again after I rebooted it and turned it on/off again..it looks like maybe motherboard, but whats kind of odd is that i unplugged the hard drive power and sata, and while it booted with XP disc..i coudlnt tell if it couldnt load the files or froze(assuming it couldn't copy install files w/no HD) but now after 10 minutes of showing the obvious "reboot and select proper boot device" message it hasn't frozen from that screen. so im hopin its not a HD issue, if it is oh well, it would be cheaper than a new motherboard.. i saw a $60 120GB HD at Fry's if worse comes to worse...sucks when you gotta put money into something to get money out of it sometimes

You can get a much better HDD on newegg for $60, I would buy from them even though shipping will take a bit of time.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822136149 500GB WD Caviar, $59.99 and free shipping.

yea that is a better deal, but im selling the rig to a guy who will probably never fill even the 74 gig Raptor lol..so as long as there's a HD he's set..that assuming the raptor went bad of course..it's hard to tell right now..it would freeze with it in, but when i disconnect the raptor, besides telling me to reboot with a proper boot device, it just stays there at that screen and hasn't frozen(the little type blinker still flashes anyway)..spose ill rip the raptor out and put it in the new rig to see if it pops up..least then ill have an idea if its still good

Figured I'd do an update. Bought a new motherboard and all is fine so far. Fry's had next to nothing as far as selection of what I needed(as usual) but I managed to find a decent & cheap..I appreciate everyone's help as well so thank you :)
