Duel Boot Vista and XP

I created a 120gb primary formatted partition for a duel boot using Vista disk management.
Then booted up with XP+SP2 slipsteamed using F6 on a floppy for raid drivers when required.
When it was time to install XP on the new partition I got the following message after pressing enter.
I even followed the instructions to delete and create a new partition but still got the same message.

Would appreciate help on this problem,

I've had a similar issues once when I had more than one drive. It's only happend when I had the my two SSD drives and a 160 western digital drive installed. I unplugged the WD drive and problem was resolved. You are installing XP and than Vista right. If your booting multiple OS's you always install the older ones first. Did you delete and create the partitions from the XP install menu?

For a sec I thought you were putting Vista and XP in a battle to the death.

Yes ... you would have put me on the right track, but I was reading about MBR,s on wikipedia and there was a reference to having more than one hard drive and the possibility of data being misdirected.

I had set up my drive sequence ready for the OS system install, and I suddenly remembered there is a further option in my Bios of rearranging my two hard drives.

I moved my boot drive to the top of the list and that solved the problem.

The OS system installer was looking at my internal drive in the bios I use for a backup, and that's why it was saying it's not compatible.

I think I could have avoided this gaff when creating the new primary partition in "Vista Disk Management", if I had used the option to mount the new partition to the correct path.

I was not too sure at that stage so I left it out.

Still, all is well now and the only thing left is too sort out the Boot Loader with "VistBootPro" ...that's a job for tomorrow !!!!!!!!!

I take your point with regard to install older OS first but I was looking at the "How to Geek" website, and they were talking about installing XP when Vista is up and running so I went ahead ... what you say is correct though!
