Just Had a First Happen To Me - PSU Blew

Post by Major_A »

I was in the middle of playing some Mass Effect and the computer shut off. I thought it was one of the many rolling power surges in my neighborhood and went to turn the computer back on. Then I noticed the putrid smell of burning/fryed electronics. RIP Corsair TX 650. Since I'm unemployed and broke hopefully it didn't take anything else out with it. The only good news here, if there is any, is it should still be under warranty.

Ah that sucks. Like Apop said, send it out soon so you can get your computer back. What are you using at the moment?

Oh and if you're lucky, you might get multiple PSUs from Corsair. A member over at HWC sent one in for RMA and got 3 in return. Corsair said they don't need the member to send it back because it's not worth the time and money.

Just put in my RMA request. I guess I must be a bit psychic because 2 days ago I backed up all my pictures. The part that sucks is I was running two drives in RAID. The good news is I have another system with the same board so hopefully I didn't lose anything. Now I have to test all the parts that were in the machine to make sure it didn't take anything else with it.

I'm considering now pulling the E5200 from my water cooling machine and popping the Q9550 in it and using the bigger full tower case over the mid tower Antec 300 it was in.

I can pick my poison here. I have 8 other computers in the house I can use.

*EDIT*
Quick question. In theory could a OCZ ModXStream 600W (12V 50A) power supply power:
Overclocked Core2Quad
3 Hard Drives
GTX 260+
8800GTS
X-Fi Titanium
DVD Burner
5 120MM Fans
Fan Controller
Card Reader

if you have win7 on that system, the OS has no problem with interchanging motherboards, dont need to reinstall even if you go from say, a 750i to X38 and back to 750i...for example ;) it just asks you to re-enter your key within 3days of the swap

sux it died though, its rated for much more than you were pulling, how old was the unit?

Bought it in March of 08. I have two GA-EP45-UD3P boards. So they are the same chipset, etc... I just don't know if I want to put the good "guts" into my PC with the OCZ PSU and Swiftech water cooling system that I had such a hell of time with. All I need is a leak that frys my X-Fi Titanium, GTX 260+ and a 8800 GTS.
