I'll be honest and say it's been a couple years since I have updated the firmware on my DVD burner...
I went to update the firmwar on my Samsung SH-S223F SATA DVD Burner that is 2 years old and found updating the firmware is a joke now!
They have a utility that tells you what drive you have, the firmware version on it and the OEM code:
Then after you grab the latest firmware it's a one step update application that does it for you on the desktop:
After a few seconds and a system reboot the DVD Burner firmware is updated...
Very painless and super easy to do... Now if Samsung had a change log that showed you what the changes are!
I remember drive firmware updates used to be a PITA, but like nearly everything on a PC it's super easy these days.

Re: Firmware Update on Samsung DVD Burner - Amazingly Easy
I have the same DVD Burner as you and checking Samsung's site, the latest firmware should be ST02. However, I tried updating it just now and it said the firmware wasn't made for the SH-S223F.

What OEM code do you have? Mine is an SB model... not ST... SB03 is the latest firmware for the SB series. Not sure how to check... Probably not the ST02 in this case. Didn't know about the OEM code.Apoptosis wrote:What OEM code do you have? Mine is an SB model... not ST... Anyways I downloaded the SB00 one from Samsung's site and after it opens, it closes itself a second later.

It's been like this for a few years. Before the Samsung I'm using now I almost exclusively used Lite-On drives and it was a matter of a few clicks.

Strange Geo... might want to try the update on another PC
Re: Firmware Update on Samsung DVD Burner - Amazingly Easy
Strange indeed. I could try it on another computer but that requires so much work
Are there any benefits to having a firmware update?

Usually it matches more media. Meaning less coasters at high burn speeds.
