Are you the only one on the network? When I used to have DSL, it always lagged up whenever someone was using a torrent program to download a bunch of stuff. I had to turn off the wireless part of it to kick them all off so I could get a good ping.

Otherwise I would find your routers configuration page and look around for a possible problem. Try turning on and off some things and checking out the connection; like the router's firewall or the wireless.

Id also run a pingtest over at http://www.pingtest.net and see what it says.

Can you change the "Modulation Type" on the modem?
If so, what other options do you have?

I'm concerend about your SNR of 6dB as your modem is reporting a lot of errors on the channels
HEC/FEC & CRC errors are not normally bad as these are corrected errors, you also have interleaving on your profile too which will also help.

I suspect you have some other un-corrected errors which leads to packet loss and thus precieved as slow speeds; as data has to be retransmitted.

What I would like to do is drop down to ADSL1 speeds (7616bps - 8192bps) by changing the "modulation type"
This should increase the signal to noise ratio to above 6dB and hopefully stop the suspected packet loss.
If the problem goes away, you can contact BT and ask them to either lower your speed profile to ~14Mbit and or put you on low interleaving.

What modem are you using? BT Speedtouch?

Ken

btw, I do this for a living with business customers, and working for ISP's for almost 10 years now.

Is it a HomeHub v2.0A (A)?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BT_Home_Hub
Until recently, the Type A Hub suffered from a flaw whereby it would reset when the user was performing uploads whilst connected wireless to the Hub. After months of customer complaints BT has now released a software patch for the faulty hubs
You could look into upgrading the router firmware via this link
http://pbteu.bt.motive.com/ElectiveFWUpgradePortal/

I can't find any screenshots of the webUI on that modem, can you check the "broadband" settings and tell us what ones are available?

currently have the 2.0B so all is fine in regardes to the firmware, but still getting the same problem. so i rang up BT and they still say there is no problems and sent a line tech to have a look personally and still no problems found. i mentioned the problems i'm getting and showed the details of the SNR and that and was told that yes my SNR is a bit low but that should be fine! i just guess i am unlucky :?

An easy, quick test to see if the line is the problem is by forcing the modem to sync/connect at slower speeds.
To do this, you need to change the "modulation type" to one that's ADSL1
If after synching at ~7Mbit your problems have gone, then you know the line speed is the problem.
You can then change the modem setting back and ask support to lower the speed profile. You may loose a couple of megs of speed, but at least it's stable and reliable.
If the problem is still there when synching/connecting at ADSL1 speeds, then there's something wrong on your internal LAN. (harder to diagnose, but can be done)

i have already done this it works fine without problems so yeah i have a line fault plus i have the nforce 650i with driver 15.51 but nvidia driver checker tool tells me that the HDMI Audio Driver 1.00.0.59 October 1, 2009 is a better driver but is it and will it maybe solve my problems!
