Trendnet TEW-652BRP
I have a Trendnet TEW-652BRP wifi router.
I have a problem when I have my laptop (on wifi) and 2 desktops (Ethernet) and one NAS (Ethernet) plugged in my router crashes.
If i unplug one desktop and the NAS i get back my router. Is my router crashing? time to get a new one? what would be a good replacement?

Could be a sign of it dying. Have you tried looking for and applying a firmware update?

Re: Trendnet TEW-652BRP
Couple things
1. What is the network traffic like when it crashes?
2. What do you mean crashes? Does the router reboot, does it shut off, does it become slow or traffic fails completely?
I have two thoughts, if its during high traffic times, you could be overwhelming the router, and its overheating, or the Processor in the router just can't handle the traffic. If its shutting down/rebooting it could be a sign of overheating, or impending death. If its hot during those time, then it could be overheating, and try to cool it more adequately.

@Major_A Yes it does have the newest firmware.
@dicecca112 Traffic is low maybe one person just searching the net or receiving emails. No downloading or gaming when it crashes. It will go to a inactive mode. The status is gone. I can view its SSID but I can't connect. I have to reset EVERYTHING and start back at the beginning to get it to work for 2 day before a crash again. out temperature in out house never exceeds 74F.

Re: Trendnet TEW-652BRP
I tend to go through a router roughly once a year. The first sign it's bad is connection issues. Whether it be with modem or with clients. So from what you've said I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it's going bad.

Re: Trendnet TEW-652BRP
Try ping the router when the problem happens - do you get replies? IF you do, what are the response times? They should be lower than 5msec (generally you should get 1 - 2msec)
Have you tested with different cables? Faulty cable(s) can cause this.

Re: Trendnet TEW-652BRP
Try different ethernet cables, if you have an ASUS board, the bios has a basic cable tester built-in.
Can you telnet into the router? If you can, you can normally type "?" or "help" to get a list of commands.
There should be one to show debug info, something like "show all-info" or "dmesg"
If you can get this info, post it here.

Re: Trendnet TEW-652BRP
The second command still says: ipconfig ?. When you run a ping how many pings are you running, the default number? If you type ping 192.168.2.1(or whatever your router IP is) -n 50 it will ping the router 50 times. As far as I know you can adjust the number to anything you want.
Example:
The more pings the better chance of seeing the issue. The default number of 5 isn't as good of an indicator, my opinion.
Example:
Code: Select all
ping 192.168.2.1 -n 50

You're pinging the same IP, the router in each of those tests. Unless I missed something else...
Try pingplotter with the machine that is affected the most. It should tell you where the problem is. Back in the day when I played MoH:AA all the time I started getting issues connecting to our server. Turns out it was a bad node between my PC and my clan's server. Found this out with pingplotter (contacted Roadrunner) and it was resolved in less than a week.

You need to install "telnet" first - goto add/remove programs, then "add windows features" on the left
Can you get a loan of another router to test with?
