Starting A New Build Today

Post by Sparky »

I'm on vacation this week so I'm going to start my new build. Bought everything using Black Friday deals, on sale or rebates, so it wasn't too painful.
I'll be checking in after I get it up and running for some help with BIOS and OCing. Wish me luck!
Here's what I've got so far:
Asus X58 Sabertooth
i7 950
Cooler Master Hyper 212 +
12gb Corsair XMS3 2000 (3x4gb)
Cooler Master HAF 922
120gb Intel X25-M SSD
1TB Western Digital Caviar Black SATA 6
Corsair HX 750w
LG 10x Blue-ray burner
Asus 24x DVD burner
XFX HD 6870
Windows 7 64bit Home Premium

Thanks, I tried to do a lot of research both with Legit Reviews and Maximum PC magazine. Only thing I'm not 100% on is the memory. It's not on the approved vendors list from Asus but comments on Newegg lead me to believe it should work just fine with a bit of additional headroom for OC'ing.

Yeah, it's been raining here for the past 3 days so not much else to do.
Got it all built except for the video card, new one should be arriving tomorrow, if not I'm just going to put in an old one to install Windows.

At least you didn't buy a LGA 1156 board. You'd have bought a socket that is EOL in a month or so. Intel said that the LGA 1366 is still the preferred gaming platform.

Agreed, I decided to break down and build a new rig after reading about the future of the 1366 socket, sounds like it will be around for a while. I just hope everything I've read about the performance increase from the 975 chipset in my signature to the i7's is true.

Well it's all up and running, dabbled a little bit in the BIOS to get the RAM set up, no OC yet, just installing programs. The Intel SSD is pretty amazing on boot. Much faster, can't wait to try photoshop and other programs.
