AM2 socket + 1090T stock cooler = ?

So with my new Phenom II build (which has no name atm) up at running, I thought to myself...why not put the untouched stock cooler to use. * My Phenom II is using a Thermaltake Frio Cooler*
As you can see in my sig, my old AM2 PC is pretty much...meh. It's using the stock aluminum fin brick and a little fan. The last time a changed the thermal paste was..what..2-3 years ago .

Anyways, I was wondering if the the stock cooler from my Phenom II (you know, the copper-coloured looking one with heatpipes and such) will work/fit with my socket AM2 PC.

I thought about reapplying thermal paste for it, but since I'm at it, why don't I just change the cooler. I could than use the fan from the cpu cooler and use it to cool the HD or w/e in my AM2 PC
OR
do some "customising" and use the fan to cool my Crosshair IV Formula's NB or SB instead

What do you guys think? Is it possible to pull it off?

Id just spend the $20-30 and get a Corsair A50 like they just reviewed.

yes it'd work but the stock fan on the thuban heatsink is a crappy one, I take the fan off the brick style heatsink (foxconn fan?) and affix it to the heatpipe hs (takes some doing)

IIRC mounting for 939=AM2=AM2+=AM3 (almost positive on 939, can guarantee AM2/AM2+/AM3 is the same)

Haha, yes the brick style heatsink is with a foxconn fan.

This is what I did with mine, got rid of it with the 1055T though, never had a chance to use it to see if the foxconn worked well (not like I used the stock heatsink at any time to begin with)

So I decided to exchange the CPU cooler for my 4400+ today... experiencing some issues & surprises...
- Took the brick style cooler out...was a bit stiff. Guess what?! THE CPU pulled out of the socket with it WITH THE LATCH STILL DOWN!

As you can see, the CPU is "glued" on pretty tight. Luckily, none of the pins were damaged...no idea about the socket though...

Any idea on how to seperate the CPU from the heatsink?

EDIT: Got the heatsink removed SAFELY this time, and cleaned off the CPU. Took some phots of it...dandy!

EDIT2: I feel lucky..so far. No borken pins and the socket is still able to lock-on and keep CPU in place...hope it isn't damaged in any way.

thats the only bad thing about AMD systems, the CPUs can easily come out of the socket (especially if you use Ceramique) popped an Athlon II X4 out of an 790XTA-UD4P about 5 times before i snapped a pin and decided I was done with the thermaltake heatsink and done with Ceramique lol (SpinQ)

thats the only bad thing about AMD systems, the CPUs can easily come out of the socket (especially if you use Ceramique) popped an Athlon II X4 out of an 790XTA-UD4P about 5 times before i snapped a pin and decided I was done with the thermaltake heatsink and done with Ceramique lol (SpinQ)

That stinks. But hey! the Athlon II popped out 5 times and it didn't break any pins..until the end.
Ceramique is a pain; that's why I didn't use ceramique for this heatsink replacement.
A good tip before taking out a AMD heatsink+CPU: Run Prime95 for a little bit to heat up the thermal paste before you take it off.

Oh yeah, the foxconn fan was a bit thick around the edges for the clips...and I didn't want to stress the plastic. I ended up filing & chiseling down the sides to get a clean fit.

it doesnt matter what temp its at when you pull, If you have a flat base heatsink and use ceramique it will always pull out unless you turn it free before pulling

and I believe I just crammed the fan on
