I was in Best Buy for the first time in a number of months and I was shocked by what I saw in the PC department... The bulk of the floor space was given to notebooks, netbooks, All-in-One PCs and now of course tablets. The Desktop PC section was limited to just three computers with monitors that were running. I asked the worker where they rest of the desktop PCs were and he said they moved them to the mouse and printer isle to make room for the new tablet PCs.
Sure enough on the bottom shelf there were five desktop PCs by ASUS, HP, Dell and Gateway on the bottom shelf. None were hooked up and only two have pricing sheets above them... Guess it's a sign of how desktops are selling.

Re: Best Buy - Desktop PCs Now Displayed in Mouse & Printer
I know I'm the minority when it comes to "computing". I would rather sit in my chair behind my desktop than any other medium. I use my phone when I'm searching for a quick answer to a question that's bugging me. I don't browse the web like I do when I'm at a PC/tower. In that regard I'd probably be better off keeping my netbook handy for when I need to look something up. But then I have to pull out the charger, find a nearby outlet, turn it on, look what I want to see and either turn it off or close the lid.
Back to the original statement, for what most people use a computer for their smartphone is all they need. You don't need a desktop or laptop to surf the web and check your email.
This also shows you that the companies making tablets are "selling" BB on more visible space for the portables. I would too if I'm making more money per unit. I have to imagine that the profit margins are tablets are at least 50%. They are also the new rag. Funny, about 6 months after I bought my Eee PC the netbook became the rage. Give it another year and tablets will be a dinosaur, just like my netbook.

Outside of "workstations" desktop PCs for home use will be very small market before long if things keep going the way they are.
I know more than a few people that have moved to tablets, mainly iPads, for pretty much everything. They dont game on PCs, that is done on the various consoles. Have more and more people ask me about laptops and wireless printers due to the fact they want to get rid of the desk and just use the Kitchen table.
I only have a hand full of friends that still game on their PC, and they are the ones that can afford the hardware to do it. Rest have moved to consoles and not looking at moving back PCs. I'm thinking of getting a pair of tablets for my kids, will save on the arguments of who gets the PC first and lighten the power bill a bit more. My boy has given up on PC gaming, he likes the XBox better. My daughter just wants access to YouTube, Hulu, and movies I have ripped to my NAS.
Second most asked question after the laptop, iPhone or Droid.

I noticed the same thing at our local BB as well. In our house I'm the only one using a desktop, everyone else is on a netbook or tablet or what not. I do some side work outside of my daily job and lately everything I have done has been laptop related.

I just dont get why you would rather play a FPS on a ps3 or xbox over a PC?
