Logitech G700 Mouse?

Post by Skippman »

I'm currently using the Logitech MX Revolution mouse and while it's tremendously comfortable and has excellent battery life it's buttons aren't the best for gaming as you seem hampered by their software to map it to keyboard commands rather than using it as a proper 4-5 button mouse.

I was just poking around online today and saw the G500 which they're advertising as a "gaming" mouse. Has anyone used one of these or own one? What's your opinion? Do I have to load up the custom Logitech software or can I just map the buttons as I want?

I have a G5, its not the same, but its a 5 button mouse and I don't use the setpoint software and it still lets me use the side buttons in applications, and to move back and forth in web browsers.

Going on my personal experience here do not pick up a Razer mouse. I know you asked about Logitech but if you Google "gaming mouse" then Razer's going to come up. Granted I have an older Deathadder but I still say avoid the brand. I just picked up a Razer Lycosa keyboard and it suffers from the same problems as the mouse. Poor build quality and TERRIBLE software. You think Logitech's Setpoint is bad you haven't seen Razer's.

(Looks like this post drew BotAgro earlier!)

Major, I kinda figured at much and honestly, none of the Razor products I've used felt good in my hand. I think the MX Revolution is probably the single most comfortable mouse I've ever used but the fact that the side buttons can't be treated like generic mouse buttons irks me.

I've got a couple of Logitech gaming type mice (G5 V2) and have yet to use the setpoint software on any of my rigs (XP, Vista, or 7). No button mapping issues or anything. I picked up each one on sale for under $40 and they've been super solid the past few years.

As far as Razer goes I recently gave the Naga a chance because it actually fits my hand decently enough and has a ton of side buttons (MMO). Prior to this one I have hated the feel of every other Razer mouse that I've tried. I have about 12 hours under my belt with it playing Rift and I love the side buttons. Not trying to sell you on it, but it seems like a solid mouse. I'm still a Logitech fanboi and will be as long as they keep making solid products.
