IDE cabling

Post by DMB2000uk »

Hi guys, I was wondering, is it possible to have both a HDD and a regular DVD-ROM drive on the same IDE cable?

If this is possible, how should the master/slave setup be?

Thanks y'all.

Yes, it is possible... ideally, the hard drive should be the master and at the end of the IDE cable. Then the optical drive set as slave and plugged in on the second IDE connection in the middle of the cable.

However, I rarely have to do this and the only issue is getting the IDE cable to connect to the hard drive and optical drive in that order in a tower case due to kinks in the IDE cable.
