new parts athlon 64 3200 and asrock 939dual sata

Post by Black Mesa Scientist »

Hi guys,

I recently bought a new proc and mobo mentioned above. The mobo's options are still default and everyhing hasnt been touched yet.
The only problem is, I don't see a boost in performance (sometimes ieven lower perf) over my athlon xp 3200. My head tells me a 64 3200 is better than a xp 3200 right?

They're both used in combo with a 6600gt agp.

And agp fast writes has been turned on.

So I don't really know. Is it the mobo's options maybe?

I have the same board but with an Opty 170 and it runs great. The board is a little picky and doesn't like to setup the apg port correctly most of the time.

This form is where you'll find the most helpful info about Asrock: http://www.ocworkbench.com/ocwb/ultimat ... um/30.html

First make sure you do this or your FPS will suffer.

It’s recommended to use ULi’s integrated driver v2.1. Not the driver that came on the CD. You can get the driver here: ftp://www.uli.com.tw/driver/Integrated210.zip
The AGP driver is REQUIRED if you are using a AGP video card.

Do as follow (the sequence of the steps is important):
- uninstall all existing video card drivers
- reboot
- install ULi integrated driver (DO NOT select USB driver if you are using Windows XP)
- reboot
- install your video card driver

Also try turning agp fast writes off.

It would help if we had a little more info. What kind of tests are you running? Where are you noticing a lack of performance? What are all of your componants?

both run dual channel memory, you went 200MHz SLOWER by going to the A64 3200 (2GHz versus the 2.2GHz on the XP), and both use the same video card... unless you O/C it you're not going to notice anything major as you are right where you left off after the 200MHz decrease in frequency.

ok guys here it comes.

My (nearly) full specs:

Athlon 64 3200+ S-939 @ 2200 3500+ speeds
AsRock 939Dual-Sata2
1gb Corsair XMS pc 3200 (do not know wich for sure, but good ones)
Sparkle 6600gt AGP stock 500/900 @ 542/1070
2x 80gb seagate barracudas S-ata 1
onboard sound

Well everything is still default in bios.

There are some other weird things too. When I set primary graphics card from PCI (default) to AGP I get a 6-10 fps loss in Counterstrike stress test and a 300 points loss in 3dmark 03 from 8500 to 8200.
That's weird cuz my graph card IS agp. This is allways with fast writes on.
When Fast Writes is off I get lower perf (10fps)

My ingame performance is about the same as with my athlon xp 3200 .
3dmark score was 8250 with xp 3200 now 8500 with athlon 64 3200.
But the problem is, I thought It'd perform better than a 32 bit proc?
I tried with diferent drivers 77.77 83.10 and 83.40 all the same.

@ someone

You said I should take 2.1?
Well I use 2.13 now so you mean the earlier version is better?

You said I should take

Is this coz my 6600gt is bottlenecking and that their simply cant be gotten more juice out of my baby or???
