Problem setting up 3rd Party Raid device in XP setup.

Post by Imakeholesinu »

Alright, I'm setting up a VMWARE box at work and I'm trying to add a virtual workstation to the server. I've got the XP CD and we're doing a raid 1 array. Now here's the thing, when I put the XP CD in the server to run the installation since we've mapped the drive to on the server to the virtual machines I've setup already that the machine I want to put XP on has the CD-ROM as the first bootable device. When I get in to Windows setup I have to hit f6 to get a third party RAID driver installed which I do. Then I'm prompted, once windows is finished installing the basic setup components to install the RAID driver by pressing 'S' and placing a floppy with the driver in drive A. I do this, and it finds the driver, then it asks me if I need to install any additional raid drivers to press 'S'. The only other option at this screen is to press 'Enter' which is to not install any 3rd party driver or to say that I do not have any 3rd party raid drivers. Then at the bottom of the screen where it lists the commands I can execute from this setup screen it says 's' to select 3rd party driver (which just takes me back to find the 3rd party driver I've just installed) or 'Enter' to continue (which shouldn't work since if I press 'Enter' to continue I won't be able to install any 3rd party devices) or F3 to quit.

Why the **** <please watch the language - FZ1> would Microsoft bind 'Enter' twice in this setup and make it impossible to setup a 3rd party raid device? Does anyone know a workaround?

Have you tried the select and enter option? That is the way it is supposed to work.

Got it working. Turns out VMWare had to be adjusted so that it was creating a logical drive instead of having windows attempting to write to a physical drive that wasn't really there. Still miffed about the microsoft prompts though.
