Re: Reboots and crashes abound - HELP

I have been having similar problems for a month or so now.
Flash9d.ocx (9,0,47) crashes or I get a BSOD when playing
videos on youtube or when my daughter plays flash enabled online games.

For me, the problem turned out to be a "bum" sound card driver.

I have a 2 1/2 year old DELL Dimension 3000 with (2) 512GB SIMMs for a total
of 1GB RAM. The sound card is a Creative Labs "SoundBlaster Live! 24-bit",
which came with the OEM system.

Recently a newer driver showed up on Windows update. This has a version
date of Jul '07. Since updating to this driver, I have had these random problems.
Sometimes the PC would even BSOD all on it's own - when not doing anything.

Anyway, I dropped the sound card driver back to the version which came with the
PC (v5.12.1.315 with a date of Jun-9-2004). So far I have not had any problems
playing online videos on youtube and my daughter's online games seem ok.
Time will tell, but the problem was so easy to reproduce with the new driver in place,
that I am quite confident that this solved my problem.

If you're still having problems, then I would recommend that you
disable the drivers for ll video and sound devices.
Then, try to see if you can reproduce the problem. If not, then enable
the drivers one at a time and try to reproduce the error, until you find the
one causing the problem.

If/once you identify the "bad" driver, see if you can roll back the driver to a
previous version.

Good Luck.

Cheers,
Mike.

THANX! I will try the drivers thing as soon as I get a spare moment (darn kitchen remodeling).

Mike

I could fix it by going to Linux, but then games wont work :)
