I'm planning to

Post by godling »

Host a webpage for 12 Desktop PC configs......

1. Intel/nVidia [Extreme, Money no bar]
2. Intel/nVidia [Great Performance, best bang for buck]
3. Intel/nVidia [Good Performance, low budget]

1. AMD/Ati [Extreme, Money no bar]
2. AMD/Ati [Great Performance, best bang for buck]
3. AMD/Ati [Good Performance, low budget]

and the cross company versions. (that makes it 12). I've already finished designing the page with a slick interface and Javascript controls, and I'll be posting the image soon. I plan to start out with the extreme config for Intel nVidia, and proceed onto the others. Under every config, there will be a small writeup next to the component (in a javascript tooltip, or as a dropout), explaining why the component was chosen over others.

I know there are probably a gazillion sites already with such info, but I'm doing this for fun, and I plan to do it with a sort of gliss and appeal which will look good. I'm a good web designer, :)

I'll consult you folks for the configs though, and once I post them, I'll bet I'll receive a lot of criticism to better them with more appropriate components.

Here's the extreme config fillout for Intel/nVidia: (Care to fill it in where blank? :P I've filled up bits and pieces, which might be wrong)

Altec Lansing 2.1 speakers on an AudioPhile sound card? Seems at least Dolby 5.1 preferably 7.1 it is supposed to be an extreme system.

I hunted GoDaddy for all combinations of 'Extreme', 'Config', 'PC', 'My' blah blah blah blah.......and the smart guys have already taken away all the good combinations. I'm having a hard time finding something decent.

Most of the 7.1s out there are not flat (as in source neutral and minimal phasing). They color the sound heavily and do outrageous processing of the audio. On the other hand, I find this Altec Lansing make to be of recording studio quality, something that can get past the snarls of even a recording engineer. I've been through the entire creative lineup, and am yet to find a model which comes close to this one in terms of fidelity and purity. I believe these can be used for professional monitoring as well, they're that good.

As for M-Audio, once again, that's a studio grade card which is widely used by professionals and DJs........not a 7.1 alright, but it's got superb DA converters and spectral response. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that it will once again outrun creative makes by a hefty margin.

That aside: What do you guys think of the core components? Pretty up to date or did I miss something? Also, a suggestion for a motherboard which will support this mayhem would be great........lots of slots required, you know! lol. =P~
