What is the best media? DVD+R or DVD-R for DVD movie backup

Supposedly DVD+R is the better format, and has some kind of better build in error checking.

So go for that I guess. Though odds are you won't see much difference in real life.

Older stand alone dvd players used to like the dvd-r format better. I have always used DVD+R for everything I need with no problems. Mostly just backing up photos and homemade videos though.

DVD+R for me. I've used Memorex mostly, but also had no problems with Maxell and Sony.

I too use the +R media.
Usually the Verbatim brand.

+R enables you to use booktyping which helps compatibility with players.

I use +R's, Taiyo Yuden(not the valueline), Sony or Verbatim
When using DL discs I use Verbatim only.

I only use DVD-R media. I've had problems in the past with +R media being unreadable. As far as brand is concerned anything will work fine. If what you have is questionable then burn the media at a slower speed (i.e. 8X).

Most importantly verify what your stand alone player is compatible with. I have the most luck with the Taiyo Yuden brand. My players at home handle both +R and -R so that decision isn't much of an issue for me.

A site that I use for ordering is supermediastore.com. They usually have free shipping and prices are competitive.

I would stay away from the super cheap stuff. If you have Nero you can run Speed Disc (think that's what it's called) and compare errors between different brands.

If you need DL discs I'd go with Verbatim.
