Re: Another Overclocking Issue!
manually changed my settings there and my memory acctually is set to that timing. well so the memory stick says.
you said to turn off speedstep. how will that help me overclock. oh and i can change my volts on the vcore, memory and pci-e thats all.

Re: Another Overclocking Issue!
Speedstep lowers the voltage and clockspeed that the CPU runs at.
It's possible for the CPU to be clocked back to a voltage level and speed that it is not stable at, while it is stable at the full speed and voltage you have specified.
And when it's clocked back during idle, you wont know if it's stable properly as it's running at a lower speed than what you have set and want to be testing.
Once it's all confirmed stable, you can turn speedstep back on, but during the process of overclocking, it's best to have it off.

Re: Another Overclocking Issue!
Loosen your RAM timings and see if that helps. I thought you wanted help. Being argumentative and questioning mine and others suggestions isn't going to help you.
Try 6-6-6-18, and up the voltage to your RAM. The fastest way I've found to check for RAM errors is to run SuperPi. If it crashes or gives you a rounding error your RAM isn't stable.

I disagree abit Major A. He asked how turning speedstep off will help. If he did it blindly he wouldn't learn. By asking he learned the reasons behind doing what he needs to.Major_A wrote: questioning mine and others suggestions isn't going to help you.

Sorry for being a d**k earlier. It's been one of those days and I'm in "offense" mode. Sorry man.

no probs major and thx for your help m8. by the way the turning speedstep off didnt work in factmy pc crashed several times upon boot. so my calculation is that my motherboard wont let me go above 375 FSB so i guess i will have to stick with it. i have tried everything possible to get higher but it wont boot up above 375 FSB.

Re: Another Overclocking Issue!
Speedstep is very similar to AMD's Cool 'N Quiet. When the CPU is idle it clocks itself down and lowers the CPU core's voltage. This is great for the save the whales group but if you are overclocking and want every bit of performance I recommend turning it off. It's odd that turning this feature off would cause the system to crash.
Make sure that you have the latest BIOS installed. You can get the latest version from the link below, if you don't already have it installed.

Going out on a limb here but if your BIOS is old maybe it is having issues with the new micro architecture in your Wolfdale CPU.
Another option... have you tried nVdia's nTune overclocking software?

Re: Another Overclocking Issue!
You have some serious issues going on here. Does the BSOD give you a reason for the crash? If your computer is set to Auto Reboot disable the feature.

I would've typed it out but I'm being lazy. Now when you get a crash you can write down the error codes and essentially google them.
