whenever someone does the work for you , they usually have the headroom to rip you off. and they will too... so eighter you put it together yourself or get ripped off.

Not only that, but I think that's part of the reason Compaq went out of business: back in the day, they were just like CTX in a bunch a ways, like using poorly remanufactured parts in their new PC's (which made utterly no sense), which resulted in their early failure. Then they would charge MSRP on a POS that had remanufactured parts that weren't worth a crap. I still don't understand why HP absorbed them, but they did nonetheless. Dell, on the other hand, used to have too many proprietary components (reminds me of an E-Machine :shudders:) that also weren't quality parts, but maybe they've changed now as they're still in business (or maybe they just have their collective hands in a couple of cookie jars, who knows?). All I remember were the really old Dells that used a beige-colored mid-tower case that opened like a clamshell, and was just as hard to get open, and even when they redesigned the Dimension cases the procedure to open them was a little ambiguous. Non-proprietary, personally buily computers are a much better value, and you know what you're getting yourself into when trying to upgrade it :)

yep, it can be said their computers are crap on the enthusiast side; on the novice or office user, it's fine. Like they'll be trying to get into the BIOS any day soon, lol.
