Many thanks to all for the advice :)

Well, the 6800 i'm referring to is the vanilla one, not the GT one... 6800GT is really out of my budget... :?

Yeah i've read up on the softmodding stuffs, and it seems that only the 6800 AGP can be softmodded. I'm looking at PCI-e right now, but will definitely consider AGP if there are clear advantages. I also read that the eVGA 6800s have a very good chance of softmodding as their pipelines are mostly working.

And yeah, i've read all quite a few reviews, but most of them have various benchmark performances (eg. in some websites X800 is better than 6800 in a particular game, and other websites the 6800 is better :? )

Any comments for the upcoming X1k series within my budget? They have pixel shader 3.0, which resolves that difference between the X800 and 6800.

i have found a list at a certain forum where they were comparing cards for the unlocking succes rate. leadtek was the winner in the 6800le and vanilla. pretty much all of them can be unlocked. newegg has them for the best price I found. leadtek also has a very good looking and effective cooling on them not like some other ones:

leadtek is pain in the ass to deal with, not wroth it, my GT fan burned they won't ship me a fan, but ask me to ship the entire card...and is only 2 months after rma, shipping with such heavy card cost me 20$ and 2 time RMA already....

prefer go for asus, my 6800 vanta fan died and they no question send me a fan with a "NEW" heatsink in 3 days fedex, that is call custmer satisfaction and good respond time

Some more info on the GTO2 mod here:

As far as the X1x00 series cards from ATI, they are definately a step in the right direction, but they are way overpriced at the moment. Maybe if the X1600 is at $200 or less it will compete with the 6600GT, but it doesn't look good right now. And the X1800 is super expensive too. If you are willing to wait a while, then they may be viable alternatives, but right now, not so much :?

If u want a reasonable card you should take the new x1600xt, I thought it performed better than a 6800 and still be ~200 E
