Looks like I read this thread too late to influence your purchase, but you made the right choice. :)

Some tips for the Ultras:

The sub will be loudest if corner loaded, however (like all multimedia subs) some of its sounds are still directional, so it's usually best situated directly in front or behind you. I've got a corner desk with the sub directly in front of me, which is pretty much the ideal setup for it. (except that my monitor turns funny colors if I turn it up too loud)

The control pod has volume settings for Rear, center and sub. These range from -9 to +15 are all relative to the main volume. For a good starting point, leave the sub and center at 0 and adjust the rear speakers so that they are equal in volume to the front speakers at your listening point.

I haven't used the Klipsch 4.1, so am not sure about them, but the Ultras have no built-in upmixing, so stereo music will play only as 2.1 sound unless you upmix it before passing it through to the speakers.

And, the volume is on a logarithmic scale, but because of our non-linear hearing, every +1 volume increase should be equal to every other +1 volume increase. In short, don't be afraid to turn the speakers up, just take care of your ears.

hey i appreciate it bud!! Yeah the 4.1's were fairly simple to set up and tune. and the amp was simple built into the speaker with 3 controls. So learning this will be fun, and i imagine easy. yeah i originally had my setup on the straight portion of my wall and then i moved to the corner and WOW!!!!!!! the sub sound increased enourmously!!! and now i am affraid of this new one in the corner with 2 computers. LOL

is there a 2 foot distance with this sub between other electrical componets? if so i am going to have to do some major moving. LOL But hey thanks again!

The manual recommends to leave 10" between the sub and the monitor, as well as breathing room for the rear slot. Normal electrical components shouldn't matter so much, just things like crt monitors and hard drives that use magnets.

I have mine directly below my monitor, elavated about 10 cm from the floor. The monitor doesn't really start getting affected until I have it cranked loud enough that I can't stand to be in at the computer, so I'll usually turn the monitor off for these occaisions.

dB levels for bass sounds are basically doubled for every surface you add beside the speaker, so hanging subs in mid-air is a particularly bad choice. ;)

Love the desk man, lol. God I wish I had that large a bedroom. But yeah, the sub can make your monitor go crazy if you turn it up loud. I have a really small system (about 80W or so total, 2.1 system) so it doesn't have any effect on my system or monitor. After I get my next place, I'll have to make sure to have big rooms all around, lol. this entire house I have now is like just over 1000 sq ft, lol.

lol yeah, my only problem right now(was, sold the 4.1 already) is the flat panel blocks the front left speaker and i dont know where else to put it without it being in the way. As big of a desk as it is almost no room with all my junk. lol That is one nice thing i am going to like about this new system, the control box is seperate so i can just put that under my monitor or something. Should come in Tuesday :|

personally, I would mount all the satellite speakers up high, just to give it that surround capability. the sub I would leave on the floor, however, as mounting it mid-air can cause sound distortions. Of course there's always selling the useful "junk" and throwing the rest away (but if you're like me you have time for neither, lol  )

This doesn't really matter, but in my apartment building, there are these bastards that play their music really loud sometimes. So I crank up my Z-5500's sub and blow them away.

Sure, I'll have a headache for a few hours and my stuff will be moved around because of the simulated earthquake, but flexing the e-penis is always worth the price.
