Hopefully this is snappier, and can handle regular ubuntu. If it can, you'll see the Via board, memory, 60GB IDE HDD up for sale in the classifieds. Had to order a p4 to molex which was a bitch to find on newegg, but I found it. My SSD better be here friday.

Hope the Sata Adapter comes, but I can always use the IDE for little while longer

Re: Matt's MiniITX Adventure
Sorry no photoshop, vista doesn't fit, and no XP. But got it running, after realizing that the damn board won't boot with the PCI card in.
30W for a Dual Core load, noisy cpu fant though

Why no XP? Does it not fit in the SSD or is XP incompatible with the board?dicecca112 wrote:Sorry no photoshop, vista doesn't fit, and no XP. But got it running, after realizing that the damn board won't boot with the PCI card in.

Don't own a copy of XP anymore, and mom upgraded to Vista, so her copy of XP left with the old computer it was tied to. I might be able to get a copy at workhnzw_rui wrote:Why no XP? With enough ram its doable. The processor is more than capable. The graphics might hold you back a bit though.stopthekilling77 wrote:No sweat, it was just idle curiosity anyway :D

for basic photomanipulation i think it might be worth a look-see down the line
i really like the idea of having that really small form factor with the zippiness of the SSD added on

I'm in the process of finding the right OS right now, Ubuntu is a little flaky.

Re: Matt's MiniITX Adventure
Put the OS Search on Hold, although downloads at 7MB a second is nice in work. Speced the CPU fan that intel uses, and its 30DB, just ordered one at 20DB, just hope it doesn't overheat. I may look at chipset heatsinks to replace the cooler, its aluminum, might see if I can find one in copper

Re: Matt's MiniITX Adventure
Isn't that the northbridge fan? I seem to remember Nate saying something like that in his review.dicecca112 wrote:Speced the CPU fan that intel uses, and its 30DB, just ordered one at 20DB, just hope it doesn't overheat. Shame really as the Atom CPU's are specced to withstand 85-90 degree temps, so it would matter less if it was the CPU.
But it should open up the whole world of NB chipset coolers to just drop straight in.

Re: Matt's MiniITX Adventure
taking about the chip in the middle which is the cpu. In my pic, the one with the fan is the cpu, the chip without a cooler is the southbridge, and the one with no fan is the north bridge.
Nate reviewed regular atom, not dual core atom, which this is

Re: Matt's MiniITX Adventure
But the mITX board he had was the D945GCLF, and yours is the D945GCLF2, they wouldn't swap around the NB and CPU placement on the same series board.
Besides, the picture Zertz posted shows the dual core next to the bar-code serial label, if you look on the pics of your board, that puts the CPU under the little heatsink and not the big one.

Re: Matt's MiniITX Adventure
well then if its the northbridge fine, a new fan won't matter. I just want it quiet.
