So round here 50% of housing are rentals. University goes out people move out. so I scored a socket 754 computer everything works to my knowledge besides the mobo. I also scored a microsoft optical mouse and keyboard both wireless that use a single reciever. just need a psu for the computer and a new mobo which a friend has. I also got a bunch of case fans and other parts misc parts. the case had a 250gb hd that is sata 1 along with a geforce fx 5900 xt. so I'm in heaven even if they aren't top of the line. I do love my amd 64 processors. I'm going to get it working and give it a new home with a friend.

Anything interesting/incriminating on the hard drive?

i never even thought about checking out the bins.. you would think some treehugger students would have a recycling program set up for misc computer equipment.

Got a friends socket 754 asus k8n-e booted it up installed windows, got it all set up and put some games on it and made a deal for some parts I didn't find to get a cheap price. Overclocked the processor to 2.2 from 2.0 and now he has a better gaming computer.

I've done my share of dumpster diving for computer parts. :)

There are some really neat deals to find at times.

My son just garbaged picked a socket-370 1.0Ghz HP Vectra this past week with two 20Gb HDDs and a 52x CD-RW. So, out with the IBM Aptiva AMD 500Mhz Chomper OC'ed to 525Mhz.

Of course it's not the great find you had found, but he did get a complete system along with the Windows CD and such.

thats a nice find you had too. Today stuff we were supposed to haul off I found a nice high back leather chair for my computer. just needed to be dusted off, it'd been sitting in the hallway for months. The job has its perks for sure. ( too bad I just realized this is posted in the wrong forum lol)

I spent a summer working for my college's service center and I had a supervisor who was a bit of a redneck... she pulled a hat out of the dumpster and put it right on her head.... discusting.

Though I did find lots of loose change while cleaning rooms
