My first Build-any suggestions

Post by smack323 »

I have all the parts now i just need to assemble the thing... i have donte quite a few upgrades - PS, RAM, Video and Sound cards, DVD drives- pretty much everything but the mother board and CPU... i have been trying to look online for suggestions to do this but it really doenst seem to have what i am looking for so i thought i'd ask you all...

Is it as easy as puting everything together and powering up with the XP disk in the drive?

I probally sound like a noob but its better than fryin my new diggs...
here are my parts https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wi ... ID=5165432 i have a 600w PS already..

mostly looking for any hints suggestions of things to do to make this go smoothly.

Even without your parts listed, all you have to watch out for is that the BIOS sets up correctly first time. So after you have put everything together, checked that it boots (without the xp disk in), and don't be surprised if you left something out that it needed to boot (like a power cable somewhere), go into the BIOS and check that everything is configured correctly, like CPU temps are where they should be, RAM has been given correct timings and voltage etc. Then after that you can boot with the XP disk in and start the install.

look into the msi 8800 gts 640? cuz it is faster clocked I think and comes with Company of Heroes. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814127280
It is an OC version that is cheaper than the evga regular or any of the regulars for that matter. That is my only real tweak I have for you. at least so far.

EDIT: BTW did I miss this? how are you going to power it and with what Power Supply?

ok so i powered this bad boy up for the first time and it worked fine - posted and all that jazz.. so i set the DVD drive as the boot drive- now i am stuck. i get the message to enter disk into boot drive and hit any button. well the XP disk is in the drive has power -and i assume the computer sees the drive because it is allowing me to select it as a boot drive.. i tried two different XP disks one i have used before to do a clean install... am i missing somthing??? or might i just have a bad DVD drive

And is that a bad thing? I think that's wonderful, people are starting to question who makes there PSU and ask if its good. That is completely and utterly wonderful. OP I answered your other thread. Its not a good PSU, JUST PC is a no name brand, I wouldn't use it for OCing

you would think it would be a little more regulated.. so what you get is what is advertised.
