which type of monitor creates more stress on a video card, when i play need for speed carbon on a crt it runs fine, when i play with same settngs on an LCD screen, it doesnt run smooth and sometimes freezes and shuts the game down. or does the size of the monitor also create more lag?

Type of monitor should not matter, I would think that it has more to do with the resolution than anything. 1024x768 would be less stressful than say 1280x1024 or 1600x1200.

yeah monitor is an "output" device!! wont matter, like bubba said, check the RES.

I thought NFS: Carbon needed a DX9 card to even work? I would venture a guess that your CRT can do 640X480 but the minimum supported resolution of the LCD would be 800X600. Higher resolution means more pixels to put on the screen = lower FPS.

another thing I might check would be your monitors refresh rate. most monitors run at 60hz maybe yours is out of whack.

EA fixed the Vista/DX10 problem, I'm running it w/ a DX10 card.

I was refering to the OPer's card (Geforce4 Ti 4200) listed in their signature.

Many newer LCD displays can run over 60Hz typically 75. Some you may have to run at the higher refresh if you have sparklies showing on the screen are the boarders of letters and lines. This is caused typically I think from the use of an analog connection to the LCD. When I have seen this even running at the native resolution of the LCD I just jacked the refresh up a bit and the sparklies went away. Many high quality CRTs are able to go to much higher refresh rates depending on the resolution used. If say you run at 128x1024 there are many CRTs that can go to 85-100Hz.
As for stress I would say that a CRT can be driven harder than an LCD though to the point that a video card would display any additional stress that would be measurable I would highly doubt. I supposed that the RAMDAC portion of the card might possibly get a degree warmer with a CRT being used.

in the game the res is set to 1024x768, the res is set the same for both monitors(and my card is THE minimum that can support the game,)

Actually you will see a difference with a CRT and a LCD. If its an older LCD then you will have some troubles because on older LCDs games would artifact or blur at the sides of the screens in fast games. Today though LCDs are just fine for gaming.
Just my two cents!

Personally, I wouldn't worry about the stress on the monitor, I would worry about the stress on the eyes.
The CRT will radiate engery more so into the eyes and people who use CRT monitors typically have dryer eyes due to less blinking. The LCD monitors relieve or eliminate most of those problems since they are more of a display vs. radiating energy.
