strange voip issue in bf2142

My voip on bf2142 randomly turns off and doesn't come back on until I reboot the game. I have an X-fi extreme music card. Does anyone else experience this? Onboard sound isn't enabled. dx9 is the latest version. sound card drivers are the latest drivers. bf is 1.25.
