i was tryng to update some video drivers on my computer last night and i learned a few things..
1) dont delete the motherboard driver also.
2) after you delete your motherboard drivers, dont start changing all your settings in the bios to "fix" the blue screen problem..
3) when you decide all is lost and you decide to reformat your computer and start from scratch. DONT leave in your external hard drive with the last 10 years worth of videos, pictures, and music you have downloaded - connected to your computer. you just might accidently format that drive instead of your internal you meant to wipe clean.
4)and after you realize what you have done DO NOT! throw your 22" LCD monitor against the wall in anger- even though you might very well want to...

When you do stupid things like that it is really fustrating, I know I hold out on not damaging expensive stuff purely on how much it costs.

If you haven't done anything else to the external drive you might still be able to recover the files (especially if it was just a quick format), there were a few good recovery programs mentioned here a while back but can't remember what they were.

yeah thats my next step.. see what i can dig up for recovery programs... if anyone knows of any let me know.

OH how I feel your pain! Every time that I turn my computer on I feel like taking a sledge hammer to it. I shoulda bought a DELL dude keeps ringing loudly in my ears....

Oh, man...I'm going to go home and back my files up on to DVDs this weekend!!

IF the machine can run WIn-XP, re-load it on a space HDD as a master. The system will run again. Then make your original HDD a slave and back everything up!

When things are near normal again, go and fetch the drivers from the oems and reload.

About 10 years ago, I would have been in the same boat that you had described with WIn98se. However, XP has made things so easy now.

I've gotten XP to run on 500Mhz machines and upward. It's a rare thing for XP not to bail out the problem of a messed up system; ei. registry, drivers, irq, PNP ...

well for $20 i was able to find a recovery program that was able to get me back my missing media. let this be a lesson learned...

It's just not your day. I also once accidentally formatted my storage HDD when re-installing my WinXP. Sucks, I know.

Ever since, whenever I'm going to format my OS HDD I disconnect the other 2 HDDs.

i can laugh about it too, now that all is not lost..
