Oh yeah!! Can't wait to see the pix. I get the same way whenever I plan a new build except I wind up reading and re-reading the manuals and all documentation. It all it pays off with a nice machine that you can take pride in the fact that it's all yours and you built it from scratch!

Image

Image
slow and steady... we were trying to figure out how to put the HDD in.... no laughing please. we eventually figured it out after a few beers :partyman:

hahaha yeah i was like O.O when i held it first, but i gotta say it IS deceivingly light

with all the fans on low its still a little noisy, but when the music/games are on, you dont even notice!

eventually i'll go under water, but i'll have to get an 8800 GTX before that happens :D

Nicely done.. quite similar to my own system.. and personally i found the clips on the heatsink to be very easy maybe its just me.. (or maybe just in comparison to the scythe ninja i originally had..)

On mine though i had to stick the HD in the bottom HD box as i can't have the one in the middle with the huge gtx8800 in there.

I found the case to be near silent when i first had it running.. but the q6600 and gtx8800 needed more fresh air that they were getting so i took off one of the top panels (you know for cd/dvd drives) to let in more fresh air... so obviously with a hole in the front it get quite a bit noiser..

Now make sure you test your temps just to be sure.. that was the problem with my system.. it posted fine and everything then got core temp and 85C idle... yikes.. thankfully now at 70ish under full load for like an hr...
System:
Antec p182 case, Q6600 at 3Ghz(well 2.99 333X9), 2 GB Corsair 8500, Intel Bad Axe 2 mobo, Thermalright Ultra-120 extreme; Creative Xtreme gamer; GTX 8800; Corsair 620HX PSU; WD raptor 150GB, Samsung 226BW monitor

Your C2Q is really hot >_<

I guess it uses lots of Vcore to be stable. I think mine is in a similar vein of hot C2D's as it requires shed loads of voltage to get anywhere above 3.2.

not sure if someone else pointed this out, but your memory is installed in the wrong slots... use either the pair of blue or the pair of white slots for dual-channel performance. Right now you have them in blue/white, which is single channel!

I suggest running the sandra memory bandwidth test before and after to see the difference ;)

Looks great though! Congrats on the build!

Hence why I wrote C2Q and not C2D :P

Also the current quads are basically two C2D's strapped together, so you might have gotten 2 similar cores needing the high voltage like mine.

no problemo, i'm off work early today and it's about 103 defrees Fahrenheit today +humidity and about 10 degrees on the heat index... staying indoors and doing a little tinkering :D

to do:
- load sandra off of the external harddrive
- post bandwidth
- switch ram
- post new bandwidth
- show bios update
- start OC-ing :)

ran the memory bandwidth test without any changes and heres what i got!

now my motherboard manual says "for dual-channel configuration, the toal size of memory module(s) installed per channel must be the same (DIMM_A1 + DIMM_A2 = DIMM_B1 + DIMM_B2)" so it'd make sense that 1G of RAM in A1+B1 would be dual-channel, right? and will i have to enable running dual channel in BIOS? i JUST switched over to the latest BIOS Revision 1203 if that helps
