Lightscribe is Lame

I have a DVD burner with Lightscribe. I've used the lightscribe on a couple of dvd's. I think it sucks. what is the point? you get one color and it isnt very dark and is pretty hard to read. Is this just me? am i dont something wrong? also, the blank dvd's are way too expensive compared to regular ones.

Theres a utility that helps darken the contrast on LightScribe burns.
Its called LightScribe Extended Label Contrast Utility(LightScribe ELCU)
It helps but depending on what font and graphic your using will effect your outcome too!

I have used it and wasn't impressed. I found out about the darkening tool about a month ago and didn't notice one bit of difference. When I bought my latest burner (Lite-On SATA 20X) I didn't spend $5 more on the Lightscribe model. For 20 Lightscribe discs you can pick up 100 blank DVDs for the same price. So my vote was LAME.

I've yet to use it as i haven't spent the extra on the discs and I still have a couple hundred regular discs left to use.

I have it, never used it or bought disks for it....permanent marker works fine for me

im content with just a sharpie. i did use to make labels for my DVD's errr....discs.... but now its just making a label for the case and a sharpie for the title

I use a black paint pen for labeling...it never fades, and is kinda raised up a little bit, and I think thats cool because I like different textures

I use it and i think its ok. Software to use it sucks bad. but for what it does, i think its ok.

The father in law has one, he thinks its neat, I'll stick my $1.50 sharpie for now. If I have a disk that I want to label; I usually want some color in there so I use the sicker type.

i have it and use it for my back up xbox games/dvd's.. i will burn cover art onto the DVD. its a personal preference- i think it looks nicer than a sharpie...

I think both of the burners in the Behemoth are Lightscribe, but i've never bought discs to try it out.

Any suggestions on which software works the best? I have a lightscribe DVD burner and have yet to use this feature. I was going to pick up some DVDs to burn, but I am not sure how to use the feature.

i used to be of the opinion that a sharpie or a well printed label for something you wanted to look a little color-ier (yes, that's now a word) or spiffier was quite sufficient.

HOWEVER, a friend about 8 months ago pulled out this ginormous disc binder, something that could kill small elephants if dropped off a two story roof, and they were ALL lightscribed. let me tell you.... that impression was enough to inspire a purchase. For the majority of day to day burns and transfers and backups, it's true there's nothing much fanciful about burning a "BackUp 7/22/07 ROFL IHAZLIGHTSCRIBIBBLE" disc. but there IS something to be said about a semi-large CD, or DVD, or even some nice custom data burns, collection having that uniform look.
buddy said he burned 'em twice, but no matter, my disc library is starting to look as nice as his.

I totally forgot I have lightscribe on my burner...from the sounds of it its not worth the hassle to invest in "special" discs

I bought a small stack for about the same price as the same amount of regular DVDs just to check it out. I don't do a whole lot of DVD burning, so I don't need a 100 pack.
