This has probably been answered somewhere before... but i couldn't seem to find it after looking for a bit so instead of wasting my time... i'll use yours instead :finga:

Anyway.. I was curious what exactly would i need to connect up my computer to a regular TV (not HDTV.. I can't afford one really i'm off to be a student again...) for watching.. so i could watch like mpeg/divx/avi..etc on the tv.. I find it annoying to watch a completely legally downloaded movie or streaming show on my PC.

My graphics card is a BFG 8800GTX and OS is vista 32-bit. The card comes with a HDTV connection ..um thingy.. but I am not really sure if that works with a normal TV.

P.S. if i did get it sorted and connected... would i have to lower resolution on my monitor for the TV output to display correctly or is there a way to flick between output being displayed on monitor and output displayed on tv..and change resolution in the process?

If your 8800 has a s-video plug on it, you are set! If not then you would need to get a card that does or some sort of adapter box would be needed.

If you have s-video on your tv, just run a s-video cable from the computer to the tv then change the nvidia settings - it is pretty simple.

Main thing is to find out if you have the s-video connector on the video card or not, looks like it does from pics I have found, but check your to make sure.

Now you have to figure out if you want the audio to come from your tv speakers or your computer speakers. If you want it on your tv you will need a mini->2-rca adapter, where they are all male ends - mini-din to 2 rca. Run this from your speaker output to the tv and it is ready for sound ( since you dont have HDTV I am assuming you dont need 7.1 surround or anything, if you do - then you would need to adapt ALL of connectors to your needs. ).

Main setting to use it the FULL SCREEN on the secondary device (tv), that way you can play a movie on your tv while still using the computer for other things :).

Let me know if you need more help - I have set these up in my house NUMEROUS times and set them up for others in my neighborhood also - REAL simple once you do it the first time :)

Maybe a limitation of the scart connector?

But it does seem very low, TV's should be at 50/60Hz normally.

i shouldn't think so given that the only connection on many TVs here in europe are scart.. i.e. for hooking up DVD/PS2 etc.. and there is no way that they could have that low a refresh rate
