Opinions Plz...Dying Motherboard?

As many of you may know from my many rants about my sick and dying pc I think that I may have finally put my finger on the problem, but need some additional input to see if my thinking is correct.
Upon inspecting my components, memory, video card, etc., I decided to go ahead and reseat everything to check to see if my problem was as simple as a reseating issue. I rebooted and got a disk error message telling me to boot to CD. So, I did and waited until another error popped up telling me that I had no HD connected. I pulled the cable to my HD and reseated it to both the HD and motherboard. Rebooted and although it took 10 minutes to load windows came up. I then decided to recheck my Video Card to ensure that the whinning sound was not caused by it coming unseated and found that yes, it still whines loud and clear (defective fan I believe). Installed my old video card, rebooted and got the same error message wanting me to boot to CD and then telling me that I had no HD connected. I once again reseated the HD cable to both the HD itself and the motherboard, rebooted and after 10 minutes windows came back up. I haven't swapped the HD cable as of yet to see if I might have a defective cable, but in your opinions if it is not a cable problem, could it be that my motherboard is screwed up?
In the past few months I lost my primary HD and swapped out my secondary to use as my new primary. Reloaded windows the long and painful way and in doing so my video card crapped out and the problem with my 10+ minute boot times popped up. Once my pc is up and running everything appears to be fine and it runs well, but the problem is, I know that something is wrong with my box and it's driving me crazy. I doubt it's software related and my thinking is that maybe my motherboard is having a problem. Thoughts please.
