I want a remote!

My computer is NOT an out-of-the-box HTPC. Does that mean I'm screwed? I want something where I can change songs, alter the volume etc. I was looking at the Harmony line, but I don't have an IR port/bay/thing on my desktop. What can I buy to add this functionality?

Anyone heard of this "Firefly" remote?

As long as it supports Vista x64, it might work.

Ithink the harmony 720 is one of teh best looking remotes out there. lots of great reviews on it too:

you can also opt for the 550 (no color lcd) for less. as for the ir port, if you have a tv tuner card, i think it comes with one. not sure though.

Just pick up a cheap PVR card with a remote. Down the road you might want the PVR functionality too.

Stay away from KWorld, I bought one to stick in my Vista Home Premium box and the card was ****.

Harmony 550 is good too, wonder if I can use my laptop with that. Check my review, its up there somewhere on the front page

I would recommend the Logitech MX Air if you have $150 dollars for it, I've heard really good things about it.

Just thought of that when I read the title.
Btw, I'll be watching this thread myself, since the new file server I'm building will also be an HTPC, so it'll get a remote too eventually.

I wanted the Firefly, but I emailed their tech support who were honest enough to tell me that no, it does not work with Vista x64. Phooey.
