I have the newest bios. my set up is as follows
amd 3600x2 64 in windows vista it was 24/7 stable at 2.8 now it won't budge past 2.4
3gb ddr2 pc26400
biostart nf520-a2 motherboard

I for some reason can't change my multiplier so thats out
It's stuck at 9.5
Now the unexplained part
In windows xp I can raise my fsb to 290 leaving my ram at 533 and it raises to 790mhz
and my cpu goes to 2.8 I can do any tests and everything is 100% ok. 100% stable in every aspect....
NOW VISTA
I've seached EVERYWHERE ONLINE for this googled 1000 times. NOTHING
I like the way vista looks and if I could get my performance back I'd be fine with it
but, I lose like 10% total performance just on not being able to overclock properly
then like 5% it seems but, most say 10% on games. Thats 20% off Kinda a big deal
I really don't mind the system performance loss I'll get but, now my entire system is slower on top of it
In vista I can't raise my fsb past 260 no matter what the ram is set at. I change the latency from 4-4-4-11 and memclock at
667 and it runs at 260 stable then around 265 it won't go past the splash screen
then change my entire set my timing to 5-5-5-15 it boots at 260 but, once again not at 265
now I lower memclock to 533 it boots at 260 but, not 265. This makes it appear like its my cpu. But, I've never had this thing get stopped at 2.45 at all. I increase the volts basically I've seen that splash screen freeze 200+ times and everytime it boots fine at 260 but, won't budge at 265...?????
It was just stable at 2.8 in xp how can it differ?

If you are overclocking in the BOIS (where over clocking should be done anyways).

And your machine is able to complete overnight sessions of ORTHOS, and memtest86+ without errors, then I really don't know why it would work in XP and not Vista.

I ran orthos in vista and the comp froze 3 times in 5 mins at 2.4 and at 1.9 STOCK SPEEDS EVERYTHING BONE STOCK video card ram and cpu it failed at 12 mins.. It's been over an hour at 2.95 (this is the highest I've ever got on my comp) I increased the voltage 6.6% and the ram is at 2.1

Now I'm REALLY FREAKING CONFUSED!! this is not right at all I know an operating system can't affect my OC.. I took out my cheaper patriot ram for this overclock. And shut down my pc. ran my ram at 5-5-5-18 at ddr2 667 usually I set my memclock to 533 for this since its over 800mhz. oddly. I can run my comp at 2.95 still it just got to hot I didn't check temps in the last orthos to make sure haha whoops. But, basically 2.85 is my stand point and doesn't exceed 45c at any time. and my ram is for the first time over 900mhz!! its actually 935 I'm going to set it down a little bit since that seems like its going to kill my ram. but, I'm enjoying this

So you think it might be the ram? be sure to start testing with everything stock.... load defaults in the bios, set the timings for the memory and then the voltages and run it like this. If it fails you know the memory is to blame. Like I said in my PM last night memory does go bad and it can happen at anytime.

I just gave up I don't have any idea why it does this I'd like to learn for myself and for anyone who ever needs this kind of help. Now the only thing I want is a program like media center for xp not vista and not have to buy windows MCE lol. like I heard of a few but, they are for linux only

Ain't that the truth, I just had a set of Corsair Dominator DDR2 go bad, now I'm waiting on getting it replased. This is the first and only set of ram I've ever had go bad in all my years of building computers and it just had to be the most expensive Corsair stuff...........

what I am so lost about is. I understand the ram thing, The main difference before was my ram latency was so tight since the patriot ram was rated at 5-5-5-15 it wouldn't really clock above 800 so I was capped with my fsb at 275 now with this ram only being stock at 4-4-4-12 I think maybe 11 it runs fine at those clocks all the way up to the 900mhz. Now I lowered my settings to 5-5-5-15 and running fully on xp at 2.85....!?!?!?! WTFudge ( I only say that on forums so its not bad language haha) but, both things of ram are in my patriot and my team elite. 2.85 vs 2.4 sounds like its not to big of a difference but WOW it increases my benchmarks by like 15-20% and gameplay drastically. Could it be something with my copy of vista maybe? but, that shouldn't affect my bios right
reguardless I gave up on my vista life I like the interface a lot and seems to run flawlessly, a ram hog it is but, that is why I got it.. to use it.
