Have any of you guys had any experience with Vizio? My grandmother has been talking about wanting a new tv a lot and I've heard Vizio is pretty good for the price...but she is kinda tech illiterate (has issues just surfing the net ) so...any experience and/or suggestions?

not personally, but a buddy of mine has one of the HDTV LCD's that he got fairly cheap at Sams or Costco and he swears by it. He is tech savvy and he knows what he is talking about. Also my LBS has a smaller one hooked up to a trainer and the quality of the pictures is amazing.

Vizio is a very good brand. The cost/performance ratio can't be beat.

That's the brand name I'm looking at for when I have to go for a new tely.........

I noticed the WalMart store here is carrying Vizio now. Sams has been carrying them for a while in the area, but everyone I've put eyes on seems to have a red tint to me. We put a Philips 42" plasma in my mother in law's new house and it's a thing of beauty.

My advice would be to head out to the big box (circuit city, best buy, etc) and look at different TVs side by side. Get the one that looks the best to you, within your budget. I say the same about audio... personal recommendations mean jack squat if the ones I'm recommending don't sound good to your ears.

Very well put, that should go with everything you buy, make or do in life.............. . Go with what you like and fits your needs and screw what other think or say, just get halfway good quality for the money you're spending.............

Well of course I wasn't going to buy a Vizio just because you guys say they are good but I respect your guys opinions on this kinda stuff cause you know what you're talking about (usually )

The thing is, TVs are a bit harder to shop for in a well lit store when that TV is just going into a living room that only has ambient lighting or a den with very little light...while TV#1 looks bright in-store and TV#2 is a bit washed out, when they get home, the discrepancy wouldn't make a difference (or could make all the difference).

You could say personal recommendations of mice, keyboards, headsets etc. aren't that important either, yet we all keep coming back to LR, in part, because of those very recommendations.

Anyways, now I just have to drag her out to the stores to look at them (just lost my driving insurance after my 6th point in less than a year >_< )

Also when you look at store displays, they normally jack all the display settings around from one to another, so you need to take a look at that as well.

Best thing to do is view the pictures screens in a store that has some sort of multi media room that can have the lighting adjusted to something that comes close to what you have in the area that you plan to use the TV in, most bigger stors do have these, but there prices are much higher, so don't buy there, just pick out what you want and then shop for the best price.............

I compared LCD TV"s along side each other at the store on an hd signal and found I thought Mitsubishi LCD Tvs looked better at least the one we got side by side with the Visio's. however Visios were some of the better ones.

Very true. I spent well over 2 hours "resetting" the picture on the TVs I was interested in, before finally deciding on the one I bought.

Salesperson "can I help you sir?"

Me "yeah, I need the remote for these 3 units and about an hour alone"

Salesperson "sir...?"

Me "Don't worry... when I'm ready to buy, I'll let you know. Thanks"

Pisses some of them off, but many of them will understand that their settings and my settings are often far apart. The salesman that I ended up buying from gave me the initial shakedown, and quickly realized that I knew what I was talking about. When I did have a question, I actually had to look for him, rather than turn around and trip over him. That's my kinda service.

Does anyone know anything about VIZIO?
I know they are based in California but read they outsource parts and manufacturing.
Does anyone know anything else?
