Grabbed it from the MSDN site ... but couldn't install it ... and then I got distracted by MACBOOK stuff and haven't returned to it yet ...

I had it downloading the night before my mobo died, you might have to use a torrent client to get it and demand is high so it takes a while to get. Reports say that not only is it a security update, some say a 10% performance boost occurred after install.

I always felt there was a performance hit from sp1 to sp2, so maybe sp3 fixes some of that (and more?).

Surely torrents in high demand work better not worse?

My XP with SP3 is working all so good. Why jump so fast to to SP3 anyways?

Does SP3 have any nasty DRM or other questionable underlining tones to it? :-k

I'm very skeptical of M$ as of late. One machine looses a MOBO due to a weird update, then the stealth update in the Q3, and what is next to follow???

For those jumping onto SP3, you're my ginnie pigs. =D> Have at it.

I don't know what it is with the torrent, the Us is being banned form a lot of torrent sites, and a lot are being closed down. There were 98 seeds, and 85 leeches and it was running at 8kb down and 5 up. Normally I see 40 to 64kb down, but haven't been on since they started banning us. There is a way to directly download it from the MS update site. Doing it from update it's only 70+ Megs. I needed the redistributable so I didn't try that route.

Running SP3 on another machine right now, install was slow (several checking/backup steps) but automatic, took 2 reboots at the end before the existing network was seen.
seems as fast as SP 2 was on that machine before (maybe a little faster) and completely stable (so far  )

I've read reports claiming up to a 40% increase in speed with SP3.
Seems a bit far fetched to me.....

I saw that too and decided to try it for myself. I installed SP3 on a "throw away" box and ran some benchmarks. Needless to say every benchmark I ran showed SP2 was faster. Maybe since this is an old crappy machine that has something to do with it.
