You only need a floppy if you need to load drivers for raid or SATA (with a pre-SP2 disk). Other than that I really don't know what your asking

xp won't recongize the usb floppy drive and the dg33tl doesn't have a floppy drive controller so we have no way to load the 3rd party drivers. So I have been wondering if any-one has solved this problem yet.

you'll have to take your XP disc and slipstream in the drivers.

I recommend using Nlite http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www. ... JOcS0zMfkw

If you need some help just post, but I think you can handle it, its rather easy. Just download the drivers, extract them to a folder, and load them when Nlite allows

Is there a setting in the BIOS to use a USB floppy to boot from or any USB device to boot from?

Also Enable the USB legacy devices in the BIOS too. It may help.

We have been all over the forums and evey-one seems the be having flaky problems when they slipstream the 3rd party drivers on so we are a little leary about doing it that way.And yes the motherboard supports the usb floppy but xp only recognizes 3 specific models at installation. We can find all kinds of reference to the models but not where we can buy one ](*,)

Same here, no problems.

If you dont want to do the slipstream or NLite, then buy a supported floppy drive, any Mitsumi external should be good, if you just have to have a specific one listed, here is the IBM drive http://www.pcsurplusonline.com/viewprod.cfm?ID=13805

The board does not have a floppy connector. I'm almost 100% certain that a USB floppy would work

Plug and Play ID USB floppy disk drive model
USB\VID_03EE&PID_6901 Mitsumi
USB\VID_057B&PID_0000 Y-E Data; Sony part number 09K9835
USB\VID_0644&PID_0000 TEAC; IBM option part number 27L4226, FRU 05K9283
These models are the only ones xp will recongize for installing the third party drivers.I just can't find them for sale any-where, so they must be obsolete.I and a lot of other people sure wisth we could find one .

You can try using the Ultimate Boot CD, make a partition of 700 Meg on one of the drives, format it, copy xp to the 700 meg partition, copy 3rd party driver to same partition (same place you'd insert with slipstream). Format the remaining partition, then transfer boot files to it X:sys C: (dos command to transfer boot files, where X: is the drive letter of your cdrom drive).

Reboot and you'll be on the c drive at C:\> type D: then enter, you'll be at D:\> prompt type Setup and enter, windows will start loading. If slipstreaming the drivers works this should work. It's a DOS method, if your not used to DOS it might take a little effort, and it may or may not work. It works on ultra light laptops with no cdrom or floppy, but I have to move the drive to a lappy that has a cdrom, I never used it to set up raid but it works to load XP.

In case any one is wondering yes I pre-date windows I started on PC Dos 1.0

My husband is a very happy man He has been able to load XP Pro back on to his system,The IBM usb floppy drive Fru 05K 9283 will load the third party drivers on to these motherboards that don't have floppy driver controllers for XP installation( so you don't have to go to Vista) or try to slipstream them :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
I can't THANK YOU enough Dark Star for pointing me in the right direction
