Dual 22" Or One 24"

Post by godling »

I'll be working in multimedia projects, video and audio involved of course.

I'm planning to buy new LCD monitors, and am having a hard time deciding on whether I should buy two 22" monitors, or a single 24" monitor. (Two 22" monitors cost roughly 30,000 INR, whereas one 24" monitor costs about 27,000 INR).

The max resolution of a 22" monitor is 1650x1050, whereas that of a 24" monitor is 1900x1200, which is substantially better.

The applications I'll be using are AcidPRO 6, SoundForge Professional 9 and Vegas PRO 7. I have never worked on a dual monitor setup before, so I don't know how convinient that really is. Somehow I feel going for one 24" inch monitor will be it.

Someone care to throw some light? What is the ideal compromise between screen real estate and convinience? :drinkers:

Thanks, and btw Happy Holidays and MErry Christmas everyone!

i like my dual 20" monitors at 1600x1200... my dual 24" setup is the best... If I would have to pick one... I'd pick my pair of 20" monitors, but I'm doing different things than you, so take that with a grain of salt.

the easiest comparison I can say is someone like myself who does more than one thing..
dual 22s are for me. I don't have it and won't for a bit since 22 seems to have a nice amount of space.
BUT,
I watch a movie, browse the web, write on IM and have some widgets from yahoo weather and cpu hard drives and ram %s.
If you are like that then duals are great since you can put a movie on a screen and the other have a lil over half with a browser, and then the top right use IM and bottom right widgets.
once again if you are mainly using it for gaming. Then a 24 would be sick. 22 is big.. 24 huge. But, remember you always get used to the size and don't pay attention to it anyways

I've just started to get into video editing, and would love the screen real estate of either of those monitors. There is just so much that you have to have open at once to fit all on my somewhat tiny 1440x900 screen.

If you are into gaming in a big way, the hardware needed to game smoothly at 1900x1200 is going to be more than it is to just switch off your second 1650x1050 and game on one of them.

I'd love either, the dual setup will give you the most pixel space to work with though.

I guess only you can decide though :P

From an engineering background dual monitors are best, if you have the room on your desk. Me for my home PC (since I don't have a lot of room) I'm looking at the BenQ FP241W 24" Widescreen, its basically a HD TV. It has 1950x1200 res, D-Sub/DIV/HDMI/Component/Composite hookups, hell even does picture in picture. Only downside to the thing in the price. Cheapest I have found the thing is $650. Reason I want this one is that I want to get into more into digital art and color is important and from what I have read here lately this is the best at the moment.

I have dual Samsung SyncMaster 22's(226BW's) I wouldnt have anything else!
As Hercules said, I watch either a movie or TV, surf the web, and whatever else I need or want to do!
If you're going to be doing more than one thing at a time, 2 - 22's are for you!
Right now I'm watching Balls of Fury and writing this post! :)

I dunno everything looks almost like my room. Wall color the difference is the set up but, wow its close. My desk is also black and grey but crazy how similar.

For some time, I use two 19 LCD with 1280*1024, then changed to a 24 LCD @1920*1200. Much better than old set. But, can't be one lcd that can do 2560*1600 ? I think that can be better than 2 22 LCDs
