About every 4 weeks i change the router password, i had recently changed it now i cant remember it, any ideas??

Some you can just use the reset button to restore to factory fresh, others you can download a firmware and install that which will erase the pasword and ALL settings you had in the router.

Honestly - people need to stop being paranoid ;) NOBODY wants in your computer, so why the hell would you change the password so frequently ;) I set up a wireless router at a major company in my area and left everything as default - NOBODY even TRIED to get into it for over a year till we upgraded it...go figure ;)

Just as long as the router password isn't default, then no-one is going to try and get in it from there. Serious people would hack a WEP key before trying to get into the router box to see what it is.

Well the only reason i change it is because of my older brother... He use to own the router in the house, When he wanted something he would just cut your net. So i asked for the bill payers permission to change the password for connecting and get a new router and then he was really Pissed off. At first he was trying to 'brute force' attack the password, But hell in the billion routers you can just set it so after so many attempts by one person has failed, it cuts their net/etc until i enable it again.

I think he thinks he can just guess the password like something around me when i make it.....

Ah, well just make it not a word, like with some random 1337 speak, or numbers thrown in and you should be set.

If he ever does crack it, reset the router again and go again with a crazy hard password.

I use the Us Robotics 802.11g wireless router, you can turn on all the wireless devices you want to connect to it then tell the router these are the only devices that can connect. That way it ignores every other device. Thought it might be a good idea to get the added protection because I'm the only high speed internet wireless for a mile. Some truck drivers up the road been trying to get into it for a year using Lightning Storm, so far no one has cracked it.

What you're describing is "MAC Address Filtering". This is prolly the easiest form of wireless security to crack, in fact it only serves to make the network setup harder to use for the (legitimate) user!

But part of the process in cracking WEP/WPA is getting the MAC address of both the router and connected user, and then doing a denial of service attack to boot the user off the connection.
Enabling MAC filtering will only require the hacker to spoof the address, which isn't much of a hindrance as it's a very trivial task!

Sorry to say.....but the router doesn't just broadcast an SSID. If I saw two wireless networks, one with and one without an SSID, I'd go for the one without the SSID, outta curiosity and also spite
The best way is to choose a generic name for the SSID ("Linksys" or "D-Link" etc).

Use WPA2 with a 26 digit (or more) password using AES encryption. This is the only thing that's "difficult" to crack. ALL other methods (WEP etc.) are VERY easy to crack.

I leave the SSID on and MAC filtering off as it makes it easier for ME to use.
