New Intel Build

Thanks to the great folks here at LR, I built my first rig almost a year ago. Back then, AMD was in the lead and I never owned an AMD system, so I decided to build this:

Asus Crosshair 590 SLI
AMD X2 5200+ Windsor
Evga 7900 GS KO
Corsair HX520w PSU
Corsair xms2 2Gb DDR2 800

Now that Intel has reclaimed the lead, I decided to switch back. I did NOT build this for bells and whistles, but more for mid level performance. The only mistake I see that I made was buying the E6750 when I should have sprung for the E8400 instead. I know I could have waited for newer technology, but this is what suits my current needs. My total rig came in at just under $1100. I had it up and running within 2 hours including the XP install. I have decided not to overclock this rig, but I will run some benchmarks and list them here later. Specs are as follows:

GIGABYTE P35 DS3L Mobo
Intel E6750 2.66G
Corsair 520HX PSU
2G CORSAIR DDR2-800
Seagate 320G SATA Hard Drive
SAMSUNG SATA DVD BURNER
EVGA 8800GTS 512 (Crysis bundled)
COOLERMASTER Case
ACER 22' LCD

Thanks...but as always, some of the parts are already listed cheaper...happens everytime.
The LCD now has a $50 MIR at TD, and the Hard Drive is $20 cheaper at Frys.

Coolermaster
Its not fancy, but I like the layout and the cooling. Its the same case I use on my AMD build.

Yes sir it is...EVGA 8800GTS
The card runs hot for me...about 65c at idle...maybe I need a different driver or bios update for it.
I couldn't decide between EVGA, XFX, or BFG, so I just went with EVGA for the Crysis bundle.

:D, the file i wanted to UL was too big :-(, but it showed 11941 3d mark 06, w sm2@5255, hdr/sm3@5320 and cpu@3086

i pushed the vid card oc to the max, and for some reason i got an increased cpu score lol, 3102 CPU, 5460SM2, SM3 5491, 12279marks , :-( still cant beat a stock 92gts

I think I could exceed 12,000 with just a small overclock on my CPU. /grins

I figured out my overheating problem for my 8800GTS...rivatuner works great...set the fan speed to 60% on boot...that dropped my idle temp from 64c to 42c.

Now when running Crysis or CoD4, it maxes out at 54c. I still wish I had the E8400, but this rig still gets 'er done!

Ok, I finally bit the bullet and attempted a mild overclock...Its running nicely at a modest 3.12Ghz.

Now to run 3D Mark06 again and see the new results...

Haha, just couldn't resist huh? That's a nice setup you're running, though I'm sure it will call out to you at night, "tweak me, you know you want too, you know I can go faster." It seems it's already pulled you in once, computers are the femme fatals in the life of a geek  .

Glad you were able to put together your new rig without any headaches ^_^

For a 'midrange performance' rig, 7000 3dmarks more than me (and I was pushing it hard) is pretty nice :axe:

Well after buying the wrong CPU, I just couldn't resist OC'ing this to over 3Ghz. Now I'm content for the time being.

Thanks Dan

I'm happy with it and I seem to have great luck when it comes to computers. I'm sure at some point I will run into some DOA parts though.
